Expect plenty of content about the Top 20 in the class to be coming out soon, but we’re going to be showing some love to the players toward the bottom of our rankings and on our Watch List. Let’s continue with the No. 195-191 rising juniors in the state.
No. 195: Mikaela Schwippert Mikaela Schwippert PG Whippany Park | 2024 NJ – PG, Whippany Park
Schwippert made a big jump in her game and her production overall for Whippany Park as a junior, averaging just under eight points a game. She holds her composure at the top and is a great leader offensively for the Wildcats. Her three-point progress has really made the biggest difference in her game overall as she’s become more comfortable and more confident shooting beyond the arc.
No. 194: Arlette Batista Arlette Batista SG Perth Amboy Tech | 2024 State NJ – SG, Perth Amboy Tech
Batista came out of the gates strong as a sophomore, putting up eight-straight double-digit performances on offense, including a career-high 21-point game where she dominated in the paint. However, Batista struggled on offense to end the season, averaging 7.6 points a game in her final 11 games against better competition. That will be a big key for her this season, to keep that consistency she found at the beginning of the season constant throughout the year.
No. 193: Gillian Magner Gillian Magner 5'8" | SG Hopewell Valley | 2024 NJ – 5-8 SG/SF, Hopewell Valley
Magner might be someone who is currently ranked lower on our list, but she’s already shown the consistency and potential to skyrocket up the list for our December update. Averaging over a block a game on defense and over one made three a game on offense show balance on both sides of the ball. She can score and defend well, creating turnovers and starting fast breaks. We have a feeling Magner’s junior year will be a breakout year for her.
No. 192: Riley Devlin Riley Devlin 5'7" | CG Princeton | 2024 NJ – 5-7 CG, Princeton
Devlin has been an absolute monster on the lacrosse field and that tenacity and grit she’s shown while playing lacrosse has translated onto the basketball court well. She’s someone who is going to make something happen some way and has shown an ability on offense to get to the basket or draw contact to get to the foul line. Devlin is as aggressive a defender as she is an attacker in lacrosse, so her vision toward goal is the same has her defensive court vision against an opponent, swiping a ball away for a turnover.
No. 191: Bianca Ellis Bianca Ellis 5'4" | PG Paramus Catholic | 2024 State NJ – PG, Paramus Catholic
Ellis has a bright future ahead of her and has already improved greatly over the summer playing for United NJ during the AAU season. That high level of competition played with United is exactly what this point guard needs to dominate during the high school season. She’s got great potential and knows how to lead a team, but find ways to create for herself, especially beyond the arc. Watching her three-point progression is going to be an interesting development moving forward.
