This past weekend, Momentous Sports Center in Irvine, CA played host to the Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 Expo. The event featured some of the top talent in the state across classes. I was able to attend the event and here's a look at some of the top standouts.

1 [player_tooltip player_id='164766' first='Sydney' last='Nelson'] - Roosevelt 2023

Nelson is a player I've seen since her freshman year and now as a senior, her game has expanded and become more complete. Now at about 6'0 she has a matchup advantage each time she steps on the court. She's comfortable handling the ball and creating her own shot and she can attack the defense off the dribble. She can get to the basket and finish strong with a quick first step. Good shooter who can knock down the pull-up three in transition. She can post up against smaller defenders and is patient when making a move in the paint. On the defensive end, she uses her length and quickness to keep up with smaller wings and stay in front of the ball-handler.

2 [player_tooltip player_id='502212' first='Abbi' last='Bowman'] - Newport Christian 2023

Bowman stood out for her off the ball play. She did a good job following missed shots and positioning herself for rebounds. Good rebounder on the offensive end to get second shot opportunities. Fights for loose balls. She also moves well without the ball to get in scoring position both on the break and in the halfcourt. In transition, she runs the floor well and fills the lanes. Good hands catching teammates passes and a good finisher at the basket when on the break.

3 [player_tooltip player_id='307808' first='Jessica' last='Bakhsh'] - JSerra 2023

Bakhsh stood out as a good point guard with solid handles. Good playmaking skills in the halfcourt; she looks for open teammates and has a solid drive and kick game. Keeps her head up on the break and dribbles under control; able to find breaking teammates. Offensively, she has a solid off the dribble game, she can pull-up and shoot the midrange jumper or attack the basket and draw contact to get to the free-throw line. Defensively, she moves well and is able to stay in front of the ball-handler.

4 [player_tooltip player_id='502080' first='Emaleena' last='Elson'] - Portola 2024

Elson stood out for her shooting ability. She has good size for a wing/forward and can space the floor in small ball lineups. Very good three-point shooter off the catch. She has a quick release and squares up well with the basket. Does a good job getting her feet set and ready to shoot. She is able to attack closeouts as well; if the defender runs her off the three-point line she can put the ball on the floor and get in closer for a pull-up two. She is also able to keep her handle up and get closer to the basket where she has a nice touch around the rim.

5 [player_tooltip player_id='312839' first='Carrington' last='Davis'] - Rialto 2025

Davis was a strong scoring wing. Solid off the dribble game; keeps dribble under control and can attack the basket. She uses the glass well when closer to the rim and has a nice little floater over traffic. She can step out and shoot consistently from three-point range. She has some size and uses it against smaller defenders to establish position and get easy scoring opportunities. She gets good rebounding position, attacks the glass and does a good job rebounding through traffic.
