Players participated in a ball-handling warm-up and skills stations focused on attacking the basket and shooting. Players were also separated according to the position and skills level and competed in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 tournaments. Players competed until there were one player or last team standing. It was good to see players work and the players listed below caught my eye and stood out in the Class of 2027.
Jhazmyn Herron | G / 5-0 | Union MS | 2027
Jhazmyn is a quick guard with play-making ability. She knows how to get the the basket but is a willing passer that will find her teammates. She is a competitive player that will get in her stance defensively and lock you down. She can shoot it from deep and has good body control when finishing. Standing at about 5-feet tall, she is strong and knows how to take a hit. She is resilient and is a good asset to a team at the lead guard position.
Aaliyah Burris-Chism | PG / 5-3 | Union MS | 2027
Aaliyah is an explosive guard with handles that plays with intense effort. She can get to the basket with ease and can score in traffic despite her size. Her heart and hustle puts her in a class of her own, and her quickness allows her to play chess on the court because she seems to be a few steps ahead of the defense. She showed that she can consistently hit the 3-point shot and can find open teammates when driving to the basket. She really showed out in the 2 on 2 tournament, shooting lights out, attacking the basket, and outworking everyone on the court. This young lady can really play and I believe that she is only getting started.
Faith Sartor | G / 6-2 | Alma MS | 2027
Faith is a player that stands out when she is on the court. Standing at 6 foot 2 inches – she towers over most players. She works hard, communicates on both ends of the floor, and would rather be in the game competing than on the sidelines. She can move for her size and has guard tendencies. Faith is comfortable handling the ball and showed that she can control the pace of a game and make sure teammates are in the correct spots. Her basketball IQ is high and she makes good decisions. She will rebound and push the ball but can outlet the ball full court to teammates. She shoots the ball fairly well and can drives to the basket aggressive and uses her body to over power anyone that gets in her way. She is a worker and she will continue to grow in her game.
Abigail Koenig | Forward / 5-10 | Woodland JH | 2027
Abigail is a long forward with some guard potential. She takes care of business in the paint by fighting for position and working when the ball is in her hands. She is good with her back to the basket and has good footwork to score around defenders. She can also handle the ball around the perimeter and makes good decisions by making entry passes in the post over defenders, setting screens then rolling to the basket, and occasionally hitting the mid-range jumper. I like Abigail’s game, and can’t wait to see her on the court in the near future.
Jaida Crawford | G / 5-8 | Ramay JH | 2027
Jaida is a strong guard that can guard multiple positions. She has the lateral quickness to stay in front of guards, and the length and strength to match up against post players. Jaida worked hard and competed every time I saw her during the showcase. She was focused during the skills workout and one of the players exerting the most energy during the tournaments play. Attacking the basket is a strong point of her game, changing directions and finishing really stood out in her ability. She can shoot the ball from deep and can also hit the mid-range jumper as well. She has a motor that translates to the next level and has already been offered a scholarship at Harding University. If she continues to work on her game, she will continue to gain that type of attention.
