The Class of 2023 as a whole has been quick to either narrow down their lists of colleges, or even choose their Fall of 2023 destinations. A lot of this can be attributed to a group of prospects and parents who has seen the aftermath of COVID-19, the additional fifth year for college players, and the effects the transfer portal has caused throughout all of college basketball, not just the NCAA Division-1 level. As I near an end to a number of articles I’ve written about 2023 lately, I wanted to point out a handful of other uncommitted prospects in the 2023 class. If you see someone below you believe has already made their college decision, please let us know so we can continue to update these reports. The following ladies are listed as power forwards in our current 2023 rankings, each fall between #101 and #225, and each is uncommitted to the best of our knowledge.
Exsencia is an extremely long, wiry, and athletic frontline prospect. She plays with a nice motor, runs the floor very well North/South, and has some bounce to her. Offensively, she will try to be physical and play the “right” way, but she could definitely continue to build her strength before college. She will post up smaller defenders, but she also likes to play in the short corners and around the elbows. She can knock down the 15-foot jumper or attack the basket. Defensively, I really like her length for trapping defenses, plus she’ll block some shots.
Reagan is one of the more skilled forwards with size still available. She has a solid to strong frame, broad shoulders, and some length. She plays with a great motor, is willing to play physical around the rim, and will battle for rebounds. At the same time, she has really worked to develop a consistent perimeter jumper, so she can step outside and knock down 3-pointers, making her somewhat ideal for programs who like to use pick-and-pop situations in their offense. I’d like to see her continue improving her ability to defend ball-screens.
Caroline is sort of a hybrid forward…she can play a little inside, a little outside, but her sweet spot is probably in the mid-post. She has nice length, she’s a well-rounded athlete, and she plays with a motor. She outplays her size, grabs a number of rebounds outside of her area, but she will also play physical and box out bigger opponents. At the same time, she can come out on the floor and defend wings effectively. Offensively, she’s probably most comfortable at about 15-feet, where she can knock down that shot or attack the basket.
I feel like Homestead has a kid like Sydney every year. She just battles, out-works and out-toughs her matchups consistently, but she also shows solid skill at all levels. Sydney has a nice motor, she’s strong, physical, and plays taller than she is. She can get inside, mix it up, and score a little around the rim. She also has nice touch, a solid handle for her position, and she is very consistent in the mid-range game. She will occasionally play around the perimeter, and I think that’s an area of her game that can continue to grow, especially if she can defend outside.
Katie could be a really nice small college “sleeper”, and I honestly might have her ranked a little low, but I need to see more of her. She has nice length, wiry strength, and she’s fairly athletic and bouncy in most directions. She’s athletic enough, that with a little more work, I feel like she could transition into being more of a full-time wing. For now, she’s great in the mid-post, she can attack and finish or shoot over defenders, plus she will attack from the perimeter. I also like that she can defend multiple positions, and she pursues rebounds well.
