The Class of 2023 as a whole has been quick to either narrow down their lists of colleges, or even choose their Fall of 2023 destinations. A lot of this can be attributed to a group of prospects and parents who has seen the aftermath of COVID-19, the additional fifth year for college players, and the effects the transfer portal has caused throughout all of college basketball, not just the NCAA Division-1 level. As I near an end to a number of articles I’ve written about 2023 lately, I wanted to point out a handful of other uncommitted prospects in the 2023 class. If you see someone below you believe has already made their college decision, please let us know so we can continue to update these reports. The following ladies are listed as shooting guards in our current 2023 rankings, each fall between #101 and #225, and each is uncommitted to the best of our knowledge.
Kaydence is a tough-nosed, hard-working, versatile guard prospect. She has a fairly strong frame, some length, and she’s a solid athlete in most directions. She has a good handle and can run offense as a game-manager, but she’s such a good shooter/scorer, she’s just that much more effective off the ball. She is a career 38% 3-point shooter and 77% free throw shooter. She is a game or two away from the 1000-point mark as well. She defends with effort, and I really like how well she rebounds her position (5.0 rpg in 2021-2022).
Highlights
Olivia has been the leading scorer at Blackford each of the last three seasons, and I’m not sure enough small colleges know who she is, because she can really help someone. She’s a very nice athlete, with wiry strength and a good motor. She has some touch around the perimeter, she’s very accurate in the mid-range game, and she’s solid at getting to the basket and either finishing through contact or drawing free throw attempts. Her 26 points in their 2022 Sectional game put her at 1001 for her career. She’s also an effortful defender.
Eva has a really nice skillset, and she has spent time in the past playing primarily on the ball. However, I think she’s better suited as an off-guard, because she’s strong, she’s a nice North/South athlete, and she can attack the basket effectively to score, plus she can craftily change directions with the dribble to adjust to the defense. She can knock down an open rhythm jumper, but her game is better attacking the basket. Defensively, she can take on bigger guards and most wings, plus she competes each possession at both ends of the floor.
Emma has a long, wiry-strong frame, she’s a fluid and somewhat smooth athlete in most directions, and she has grown a couple of inches throughout high school. She has a fairly balanced skillset, and she plays with some versatility. She can handle the ball at times, even initiate the offense, if necessary, but I feel like she’s much better off the ball. She is a capable perimeter shooter who can get hot if she finds a rhythm, but she can also score by attacking the basket. Additionally, she will battle at the defensive end of the floor.
CeCe saw a lot more opportunity for Southport as a Junior than as a Sophomore, and she stepped up in a big way for the Cardinals. She has a long, wiry-strong frame, and she is fairly fluid. She can handle the ball at times and initiate the offense, but she’s closer to being a point forward than a combo guard. She can knock down an open rhythm jumper, but she’s much better attacking the basket. She rebounds the ball very well for her position, and I think that toughness and ability to defend ‘2s’ and ‘3s’ could be intriguing to small colleges.
