Continue ReadingJenna Stephens Jenna Stephens 6’0″ | C Stanton | 2023 State IA is a dynamic center that has the ability to play the forward position with the chance to space the floor when she has a mismatch against a slower, not as coordinated defender. Coming off of a year where she averaged 16.5 PPG on 44.3% shooting, 7.8 RPG, and 1.5 APG for the Stanton Viqueens, she ranked in the top quarter of the 1A class for overall scoring as a junior last season. Something that stands out about Stephens when she plays is how well she rebounds off of a missed shot, knowing where the ball is going to be prior to it landing. This winter she will look to repeat as conference champions after going 10-0 in conference last season, 24-1 overall. Their only loss coming during the regional championship to Extra-EHK High School during the playoffs.
Audi Crooks Audi Crooks 6’3″ | C Bishop Garrigan | 2023 State #42 Nation IA name must be mentioned in the same sentence as scoring when we look back at the 21′-22′ women’s high school basketball season. Crooks scored 659 points as a junior for Bishop Garrigan High School to lead the state over all classes for total scoring, averaging 23.5 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and shooting 72.3% from the free throw line. She was unstoppable in the post with the knowledge to make a great pass if a double or triple team is coming her way. The Iowa State women’s basketball commit lead her team to an overall 25-2 record, 16-0 in conference, and a state championship last season. She is the most dominate center this state has seen in a long time and I expect that to grow for her senior season as she tries to top what she did a year ago.
Paige Klocke
Paige Klocke
Paige Klocke is one of the taller players on her Gidden-Ralston Wildcats team at 5’7, which led her to become a scoring and rebounding machine last season, averaging 19.4 PPG on 42.3%, and 10.4 RPG. Being a physical guard who can dribble, pass, and score, Klocke got to the free throw line the most frequently as a junior last year in the 1A class, shooting a total of 212 free throws, while making 143 of them. The Wildcats ended their season at 10-12, 6-9 in conference with the smaller group that they had in 21′-22′. They will look to build on the foundation they set in place in attempts to grow their program with more success to come in the near future.
Emily Williams Emily Williams 5’8″ | SF East Mills | 2023 State IA tends to play the position of a forward with the skillset of a guard, leading to a ton of up side in her future on the basketball court. The Wolverines main option averaged 16.8 PPG on 49.3% shooting, brought in 9.4 RPG, and recorded 2.5 APG while playing on the inside last year. With the ability of bringing bigger players out to the perimeter, and then winning with quickness, Williams put on a clinic on attacking her defender whiling attempting to score during the 21′-22′ season. She will aim to bring home a conference championship for the Wolverines after coming in second the previous year at 8-2, only behind Stanton High School who finished 10-0.
