Continue ReadingI stress over and over that rankings are “opinions from other people”. I have gone to 4 and 5-star restaurants that were horrible while many of the “holes in the walls” were SIMSATIONAL. I remember ASGR had my daughter ranked 208 at the guard spot “because they hadn’t seen her” yet they had and it was because of my being outspoken yet I have no agenda whatsoever other than promoting Texas players, I was the first to do that over a decade ago
I don’t copy others, like Blue Star tweeted, in fact, I could care less what other people think. I’m intelligent enough to know what I’m looking at and although I’m sure I missed players, if I didn’t see them for myself, I just can’t elaborate on it, by the way, my daughter won a National Championship with Texas A&M and a WNBA Championship this season with the Las Vegas Aces
Here are some new players that made a huge splash, I’m breaking down the 5 who are making their debut in the Top 65, and I’ll drop the other 8 later today
#22 Jade Clack Jade Clack 6'1" | SF Austin | 2023 State TX -6’1 SF (Austin)
Clack was last seen by me in her freshman season yet after catching her at Alamo City Hoops High School Showdown, I was blown away by her progression. She scored multiple ways, including dropping the midrange with ease however her scoring off the dribble, with either hand was equally impressive. She finished strong after contact, this included putbacks as she rebounded on both ends of the court yet her defense and playing the passing lane were all definite pluses
#25 Imani Morris Imani Morris 6'4" | C Duncanville | 2023 State TX -6’4 C (Duncanville)
Morris is long and athletic, I call that the base but I also enjoy watching her control the paint on both ends at that same Alamo City Hoops event. She’s a huge pickup for the Pantherettes as they attempt to make another legitimate state run because of her timing, she blocks, alters, and (or) deflects shots with excellent timing. She finishes around the basket, in fact, showed she could face the basket and score. She also did a good job rebounding as well as defending, in and outside the paint
#40 Taleyah Gibbs Taleyah Gibbs 6'0" | PF Kileen | 2023 State TX -6’0 PF (Killeen)
Gibbs is also “long and athletic” and she gets a huge debut because of her progression and consistency. I caught her a few times over the club season and one thing she has always shown was power as well as energy and she has channeled that into a player to be contended with on both ends of the court. I love how she battles for everything off the rim and her finishing with players literally hanging on her will translate nicely at the next level. She also scored around the basket and off the dribble
#55 Adyson James Adyson James 5'10" | SF Steele | 2023 State TX -5’10 SF (Steele)
James has been a player that understood how to get hers “in the flow” for most of her career yet at that, one more time, Alamo City Hoops High School Showdown, she had me tweet, “I knew she was good, but not that good” because she has always been a role player yet she showed she’s ready to step on center stage. I love watching her rebound and finish against taller players, you can’t teach DESIRE and she falls into that “you won’t outwork me” category. She also scores off the dribble and finishes strongly after the lick and that ever-so-important midrange game has taken a jump
#62 Kastyn Young Kastyn Young 5'11" | SG Harlan | 2023 State TX -5’11 SG (Harlan)
Young has done a good job of continuously impressing me all season long. She’s a “big guard” that can shoot it, I love that, and more importantly, so do college coaches and they offer next-level opportunities. Her mid to very long-range shooting wowed me, especially in the clutch as she understands how to create her shot under pressure and elevate over the defender to drop it. She too is “long and athletic” and watching her use her body control on her finishes was as impressive as her playing the passing lane and handling the ball in the open court
