In this article, we look at some of the guards who are expected to have a breakout season and average near double digits in points.
Taylor Perce Taylor Perce 5'10" | SG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL / 5’10 SG / Ponte Vedra
Perce (cover photo) is one of the best Junior guards on the First Coast and this season it will be revealed. No one has worked harder on her game than Perce. She is a versatile player who can play the 2 3, or 4. Perce can really shoot the ball and after seeing her knock down 5 threes in a game over the summer and again in AAU, Perce’s time is now. Perce has the offensive game that will see her average close to double digits in points this season. She can shoot the three, runs the floor well in transition, has a mid-range game, and has the ability to get to the line.
Ni’ana Hill Ni’ana Hill 5'7" | SF Palm Bay Magnet | 2024 State FL / 5’7 SG / Palm Bay
At the Southeast Showcase, Hill was one of the best guards in the building. She has an array of offensive moves and can get her shot off anytime she wants to. She has the jumper, the midrange, the crossover, the step back, etc. This upcoming season, Hill’s game will be on another level. She is that good.
Piera Alexander Piera Alexander 5'6" | PG Orange Park | 2024 State FL / 5’8 PG / Orange Park
Alexander provided stability at the point guard position at Orange Park last season. This season she will be asked to do so again and carry more of the scoring load. Alexander is more than capable of handling the responsibilities. The expectations just come with the territory and it’s something that she has the skillset to accomplish. Alexander can shoot from behind the arc, she excels in the midrange area, and she can also get to the rim. Alexander is a play-making guard who will look to make more plays for herself this 2022 – 2023 season.
Kiyana Hunter Kiyana Hunter 5'3" | PG Mandarin | 2024 State FL 5’3 PG / Mandarin
Hunter has had a good two seasons flying under the radar. With the exit of Ellie Jackson, Samantha Freeland, and Sarah Robinson, a void of nearly 25 points per game was created. Hunter has the offensive skillset to average double digits and help fill some of the scoring void. She has historically scored near double-digit in the big games and will be called upon to do so in every game. Hunter can fill it up from behind the arc, can get to the goal, and is an excellent free throw shooter. With the offensive skillset, averaging near double digits is the expectation.
Terrielle Clark Terrielle Clark 5'7" | CG San Jose Prep | 2024 State FL / 5’7 CG / San Jose Prep
Clark has been a consistent player and one of the best young players for the past few years. Last season she averaged 7.3 points per game. This year as a Junior, Clark’s leadership and her team’s expectations of her will reach new heights. Clark has the game to reach the expectations. She can score on the outside, in the midrange area, and can really get after it in transition. Clarke is also an excellent rebounder from the guard position. Last season she averaged over 7 rebounds per game. A lot of key seniors departed and took a lot of points per game with them. Clark will be called upon to help fill the scoring void left by the departing seniors. It’s Clark’s time at San Jose Prep. The Radar has been removed and she will be at the front and center.
Kendall Shorstein Kendall Shorstein 5'5" | SG Episcopal School Of Jacksonville | 2024 State FL / 5’7 PG / Episcopal
Shorstein has had some good statistics over the past few years, but her game had evolved since her Freshman season when she was a statistic percentage leader in three-pointers as a Freshman. Shorstein played well as a Sophomore, averaging over 7 points per game. . Shorstein had some really good three-point shooting performances over the summer and showed the ability to get to the rim. In addition to shooting the three-pointer, Shorstein can also get to the basket and score. Shorstein is poised for a special Junior season.
Juliana Ferguson Juliana Ferguson 5'7" | CG River Ridge | 2024 State FL / 5’7 CG / River Ridge HS
Ferguson averaged 4.2 points per game last season. She was a standout during the summer AAU ball showing aggression for the ball and knocking down shots at every level on the court. Ferguson ran the point well and showed a high IQ on the court. Ferguson played well over the summer and during the live period and even picked up an offer. She has the tools to up that scoring average to near or above double digits this year. Defensively, she will continue doing her thing. On the defensive side, Ferguson was very impressive over the summer and during the live period. She is an aggressive defender who averaged 3 steals per game and recorded over 100 steals last high school season. She is a special player who will have a special Junior season.
