This high-energy event gave me a sneak preview of a variety of high and low-profile talent, and what each athlete can do to add to their team’s success this coming season. The following is a list of point guards that caught my eye:
Macy Willis Macy Willis 5'6" | PG Valley Springs | 2025 State AR -5’6″, Valley Springs QH.S. Class 2025. Valley Springs, AR. Macy’s size and strength is impressive to watch. Coupled with her speed, she creates a decisive mismatch for her opponents. She can hit the three-ball but driving to the basket and dishing off to her teammates is her game. Look for this sophomore to help her high school team to a potentially deep playoff run.
Karlie Cursh Karlie Cursh 5'4" | PG Dardanelle | 2024 State AR -5’4″, Dardanelle H.S. Class 2024. Dardanelle, AR. Karlie is the prototype point guard. Given the opportunity, she will take the three-point shot, but her basketball IQ is her biggest asset. She has excellent court vision and can score or dish off to a teammate. Defensively her quickness allows her to anticipate and recover. Karlie’s physical strength and anticipation skills create easy baskets on the other end. Her leadership will definitely impact her high school’s success this season.
Kailynn Garris-5’3′, Nemo Vista H.S. Class 2023, Center Ridge, AR. Kailynn is efficient with the ball in her hands. She stays very low to the floor, and her quickness and ball control counters her size disadvantage. She is basketball smart and can blow by her opponent with exceptional speed. When open, she can hit the three ball. Count on Kailynn to lead her high school team deep into the postseason.
Shalyn Lyle Shalyn Lyle 5'6" | PG Nashville | 2025 State AR -5’6″, Dumas H.S. Class 2025. Dumas, AR. She is a strong performer. She has the size to overwhelm her opponent. Just a sophomore, she can create a mismatch that results in positive situations for her team. Shalyn likes to shoot the three but is most effective in driving to the basket. She will certainly log quality minutes for her high school team this coming season.
Emma Chambers Emma Chambers 5'9" | PG De Queen | 2026 State AR -5’7″, DeQueen H.S. Class 2026. DeQueen, AR. I was very impressed by Emma’s maturity. What was more impressive was her floor game competing with juniors and seniors. She stood in there and competed. She has excellent court awareness and understands spacing. As an incoming freshman, her speed and quickness matched all others on the court. I’m confident this year she could get minutes at the varsity level.
Next up, is a list of upperclassman combo guards.
