Turning in non-erroneous rosters is also simple yet even as the season winds down, during viewing periods, there are always issues. It’s sad, but what’s sadder is I have to keep repeating it so if I spelled names incorrectly, well that was probably me, but if someone isn’t listed that went off, it probably wasn’t me
So with that being said, on opening day, several separated themselves in front of me
Jashalyn Hatton-5’10 SF (Frankston) Southern Metroplex Athletics [2023]
Hatton is long and athletic, that is the base and I repeat that over and over. What else does she bring to the table? well her timing was one of the best at the event as she blocked, altered and (or) deflected shots, almost effortlessly. She did a good job defending, in and outside the paint, elevated for rebounds on both ends, and scored off the dribble and around the basket
Senaida Barrientos Senaida Barrientos 5'7" | SG Smithsville | 2023 State TX -5’7 SG ( Austin) CTX Lady Knights [2023]
Barrientos is heady and always stays composed under pressure. She understands how to get hers in the flow and plays within herself meaning she doesn’t take bad shots. She did a good job creating, not only for herself to drop to jumper but for her teammates as she saw the floor and made tough passes in traffic
Deoshanay Henderson-5’11 PF (Odessa) Lady Soldiers [2023]
Henderson attacked the basket however she wanted and let me also add she did it with power. She finished with players literally hanging on her yet she also did a nice job dropping the pull-up jumper. She played solid defense, she even played the passing lane and she rebounded on both ends of the court
Kya Cook-5’4 PG (Chapel) Texas Elite ET Spurs 17U
Cook has the right last name because she was cooking on the court and her smothering defense, on the ball, baseline to baseline, was impressive. She also has quick hands which enabled her to get steals, she handled the ball afterward, in the open court and under pressure to either score or dish, solid court vision by the way. She also showed a nice first step in the set to attack and finish
Donojah Watkins-5’7 PG (Odessa) Lady Soldiers [2024]
Watkins is a “long and athletic” guard, the base still works because she picked some pockets with her quick hands, she also played the passing lane and went coast to coast under pressure afterward to either score or dish. She created her shot in the set to either take the jumper or attack the rim, nice body control on her finishes
Audrey Cline Audrey Cline 5'7" | SG Allen | 2024 State TX -5’7 SG (Independence) DC Queens Black 2024 {2024]
Cline put on an offensive show to open up the Texas Finale. I hadn’t seen her in years yet she could always shoot the ball. Now, she’s creating better under pressure, showing the stop and pop in transition, and even better, the catch and shoot with accuracy. She also scored off the dribble and made the right passes to the right teammates
Desi McCarty-6’2 C ( Mount Vernon Enola) Team Arkansas Elite {2024]
McCarty already has the college-ready frame and watching her “hands and footwork” inside the paint had me smiling, let me drop a #THRO WBA CK for that. I love “old school” stuff that apparently is being used or taught, whatever the case may be, when I see it, I get excited. She also scored on putbacks as well as facing the basket, she rebounded on both ends and blocked shots
Sadie Sanchez Sadie Sanchez 5'6" | PG Randall | 2025 State TX -5’5 PG (Randall) Hoop 10 United [2025]
Sanchez continues to elevate her game which is why I elevated her in the 2025 rankings. If I give a thumbs up on somebody, those who know should know I know what I’m talking about, and watching her toy with defenders to either blow by them and finish acrobatically is one thing yet her deceptive first step works even better because her NBA range. Teams sent 2 and 3 at her, no problem, court vision is next-level ready
