As we enter December, teams will be gearing up for holiday tournaments and getting ready for conference play. One known tournament is the Dandra Thomas Invitational Tournament. So lets take a look at some point guards that had a solid showing.
Macy Willis Macy Willis 5'6" | PG Valley Springs | 2025 State AR | PG | Valley Springs | 2025
I got the opportunity to see Macy at the Dandra Thomas Tournament in Conway in early November. She’s is an unselfish point guard that loves to get everyone involved, but when push comes to shove she can put the ball in the basket and become a scoring threat. She’s tough to defend in transition with her ability to go coast to coast and finish in the paint through contact.
Jada Page | PG | Parkview | 2023
Jada is another player I got to see at the Dandra Thomas Tournament in Conway. She is what gets and keeps the Parkview team going. She’s the facilitator, the leader, and brings enough energy that overflows to her teammates. Defensively she’s a disruptor with her on-ball defense and she can finish at the rim or make the mid-range jumper.
Whitney Brown Whitney Brown 5'5" | PG Fayetteville | 2025 State AR | PG | Fayetteville | 2025
I was really impressed with Whitney at the Dandra Thomas Tournament. The game I saw she really displayed maturity and a high IQ. She ran the team well, finished in the paint, delivered on target passes that lead to her teammates being successful, and she has a nice floater. It’s going to be real nice seeing her compete in the tough 6A conference.
Kaden Beckwith Kaden Beckwith 5'5" | PG Conway | 2023 State AR | PG | Conway | 2023
Kaden has been an intricate part of the Conway’s success for the past two seasons. Her unselfishness and on-ball defense has played a big part in Conway’s dominance. The senior point guard is one of the best on-ball defenders in the state. She is a complete team player that can finish in transition and make plays for others.
Samyah Jordan Samyah Jordan 5'6" | PG Conway | 2025 State AR | PG | Conway | 2025
Whenever you get a taste of high school basketball there’s usually a level of adjustment that needs to take place. This was not the case for Samyah. She fit right in with her team and showed she belonged and could compete. The sophomore point guard will give Conway depth at the point position. She has the ability to break down the defense, defend, and get her teammates involved.
Mia Smith Mia Smith 5'6" | PG LR Christian Academy | 2023 State AR | PG | LR Christian Academy | 2023
Mia is a solid point guard that is going to go out there and do whatever is needed to help her team win. She can get others involved or be more of a scorer. Her ability to get in the lane off the dribble makes her tough to contain. But her on-target passing to open teammates on the perimeter or dropping the pass off to the big makes her dangerous. She also has the ability to finish herself or make the three.
Kyleigh Scoggins Kyleigh Scoggins 5'9" | PG Nashville | 2023 State AR | PG | Nashville | 2023
Kyleigh possess just about everything you need in a point guard. She stands around 5’8 so she has the size to see over most of her defenders. That size also allows her the versatility to defend different positions. She can score in transition, make the three-ball, break down the defense, create open shots for her teammates and is the glue that keeps her team together. I’m looking for her to lead her team to another deep run in the state playoffs this year.
