Gracie Schoonhoven Gracie Schoonhoven 5'11" | PF Unity Christian | 2023 State IA
The multisport athlete led all juniors in points per game, with 24.7. However, the now senior didn’t stop there. I’m reluctant to call kids a “stat-sheet stuffer” because it can be an easy cop-out to describe kids who do multiple things on both ends of the floor, but it fits Schoonhoven. Even watching her performance at the state tournament last season, her impact on the game is vast, and it’s impressive that she can be a focal point where the offense can run through her. Schoonhoven is an excellent athlete that can change a game in a few minutes.
Laney Pilcher
The Jesup combo guard has all the tools to play at the next level. She’s a physically strong kid with the versatility to play either guard spot and can guard one through three on the defensive end. I liked what she was able to do over the summer, and she showed that what she did was repeatable across multiple states, weeks, and months. She’ll have another excellent season at Jesup. After she graduates, there will be a small school coaching staff who’ll love what she brings to their team.
Jenna Pitz Jenna Pitz 5'7" | PG Ankeny | 2023 State IA
One of the things that stood out to me about Pitz was how well she advanced the ball. Every time I saw her play, her team would play with pace, and she’d always look to throw an aggressive pass when her team got possession off a turnover, a miss, or a made shot. I thought that her ability to do that effortlessly was impressive. Pitz also had a solid spot-up jumper that she would break out now and again. It was compact, repeatable, and had the results to back it up.
Josie Potts Josie Potts 5'6" Dubuque | 2023 IA
I like kids who know their role and excel within it, and Potts does that. She is a spot-up shooter that creates spaces for others and uses her jumper to get to different aspects of her game. Her pump fake can create space for her to attack recovering defenses, and if Potts gets to the line, she’s been excellent from there. Her 3-point percentage doesn’t represent how good of a shooter she is, but when you see her play, you can see how much defenses respect her.
