Continue ReadingI try to catch Westside multiple times because my daughter, Sydney Colson, graduated from there before she won a National Championship at Texas A&M and this year, a WNBA Championship, with the Las Vegas Aces so that connection will always be there. Historically, the Wolves have been known for their heat on the defensive end, nothing has changed, and watching an equally intense Silsbee team set the stage for an adrenaline boost in one of the many “down to the wire” games I caught. Here are some of the standouts, hey I got plenty more on countless players because one more time, I am a REAL evaluator, and no matter what you hear or think, #ThereIsNoMe
Westside
Makayla Evans-5’7 CG [2023]
Evans scores multiple ways yet her attacking of the basket and finishing strongly, showing her body control, yes after contact was on point early in the game. Her court vision and pinpoint passes got her teammates’ looks but in the second half, she showed the midrange quite a few times. That, as well as her “on the ball” defense as well as playing the passing lane
Indiya Fields-6’0 PF/C [2023]
Fields was a force on the inside and observing her rebounding on both ends powerfully is always a good sign. She also went after the ball off the rim, something I drop #THROWBACK because it isn’t done as often as it should nowadays. She played solid defense on the inside as well as used her body well to score, solid hands and footwork were a huge plus and she finished after the lick
Neso Anisiobi-SF/PF [2024]
Anisiobi JUST DID IT for me. She showed me a lot during the club season yet this was different as she has taken her game to yet another level. She was powerful on the inside yet she also showed UPS and scored with ease after contact. That same elevation had her swooping rebounds on either end and while showing her athleticism in the open court, she took the ball coast to coast to score. On the flip, she played the passing lane and applied good “on the ball” defense
Silsbee
Erica Williamson-5’8 SG [2023]
Williamson created her shoot very well under pressure and more importantly knocked it down. I was equally impressed when she showed the “catch and shoot” numerous times, which can change the momentum of a game in itself. She also scored off the dribble as well as dropped some nice passes to her teammates for assists. Her defense was solid, she even rebounded against taller players
Monica Bottley-5’4 PG [2024]
Bottley put on one of the best individual-scoring performances I saw from either event. Let me play on words a bit with her last name, “you can’t BOTTLE her up” because she has an explosive first step, in the set as well as the open court, and her countless acrobatic finishes, many after contact kept my adrenaline going. Her “stop and pop” jumper in transition was nice, so was watching her create it and drop it in the set let me not forget great court vision
Jenna Warden Jenna Warden 5'10" | SG Silsbee | 2025 State TX -5’10 SG/SF [2025]
Warden was INADVERNTLY left off the Top 100, have no fear, that will be corrected in a huge way. Her poise under pressure when she was in the 5th grade sold me, her playing all 5 positions sold me yet watching her just take her game to yet another level solidifies what I said when she was in elementary school, #D1Lock. She has one of the best pull-up jumpers in Texas, all classes, yet she mixes it up nicely by scoring off the dribble and (or) dishing the ball. She rebounds strongly, she understands positioning and one more time, college coaches love big guards that can SHOOT
