Here is a look at the top Class of 2023 standouts from the Carl Junction Tournament.
Destiny Buerge Destiny Buerge 5'8" | PG Carl Junction | 2023 State MO (Carl Junction): The 5’8″ shooting guard was selected the MVP of the tournament after leading the hosts to the tournament championship. The Pitt State recruit averaged 20 points a game in the tournament. She’s a complete offensive player who can attack the basket in either direction, hit the mid-range jumper and knock down the 3-pointer. She also makes the extra effort plays by diving on the floor for loose balls and hustling for offensive rebounds.
Karlee Ellick (Neosho): A talented 6’2″ forward who has very good fundamentals inside where she can impact the game at both ends of the court. She seals defenders well in the post and she does a job of keeping the ball up high when she finishes. She can also pass the ball well out of the double team to open shooters and cutters. She can also block shots inside or cause disruption at the top of her team’s 1-2-2 zone press defense.
Abbey Heathman (Nevada): A 6’0″ forward who had a big performance in the semifinals against Parkview with 25 points. She is a strong offensive player in the post who can also make plays off the dribble with her ball handling skills. She can also hit the 10-12 foot jumper off the bounce. She is also a very effective screener. She runs the court well and she gets the job done on the offensive boards.
Jestiny Worley (Parkview): A 5’6″ guard who is very effective in the lane against taller players because of her strength and physical play. She has good footwork and she makes good use of head fakes inside to keep defenders off balance. She attacks well on the drive and she has a nice shooting touch.
Khloe Burk (Carl Junction): A 5’6″ point guard who is a very solid player at both ends of the court. She’s quick and she is a capable shooter from long distance. She is a very impressive on-ball defender who gets in a stance and moves her feet to harass opposing ball handlers.
Maddy Majors (Nevada): A talented guard who was shooting the ball well from 3-point distance throughout the tournament. She is a solid all-around player who was always moving and cutting without the ball and getting herself into the right spots. She was also very effective in the transition game.
