The demeanor that Coco displays on the court sticks out to me the most.. cause it doesn’t match the energy that she plays with. The attitude is even kill no matter the situation… but the skillset is high intensity. Every possession she’s coming at you full force. Simple type of game.. not to flashy, but just gets the job done. She makes big plays by scoring.. she makes big plays by facilitating. She finished the night with 18 (10/11 from the free throw line).
Game winner to kick off the first game of the day.. and Gillis did just that, plus 18 points. The Whitewater commit is a lot to deal with in the low block area. Her instincts and awareness are top tier as well too. She can fit seamlessly into a offensive scheme.. and thats mostly because of her low maintenance attitude and skillset. Mia is a glue piece type of talent, a needed player on all programs.
Highlights
Seeing growth in players year by year is always a top feeling for coaches and evaluators. J-Wood is no where near her peak but she is still getting better game by game. She finished the night with 16.. but this year she’s stretching that jumper out to the arc, and it’s looking confident and smooth. Still a nightmare to deal with in the paint.. and thats on both ends of the court. Jordan brings a leadership and a comfortability to her squad. Players can make mistakes.. knowing she’ll have their back. College ready.
The play style of Yahira is a team necessity. Far from unselfish.. sometimes to unselfish. Yahira doesn’t make the right play.. she makes the high IQ play, and if you know this game, you know there’s a difference. Coming off a brutal injury, Bueno is still playing at a strong level. Offensively her game fills every statistical category. The passing is elite.. the vision, the feel and the IQ to see a play develop before it does… the kid can run an offense. The handles aren’t flashy, but she stays in control, gets where she needs to go and she stays strong.. even with pressure. One of my favorite players to watch, and she definitely was a crowd favorite this weekend.
The progression and the off season work has come together for Molly O. She’s expanding her skillset and its showing. She’s taking and making the three ball with confidence, her handles in the open court are progressing and the passing is becoming more pinpoint. With nothing but time to attach more and sharpen more.. O’Riordan is on her way to being one of the top post players in the state.
Watching Eidle play is so relaxing.. she’s smooth, calm, poised and just gets to her spot by any means. She has a bag full of tricks.. (the half spin had the crowd going).. but she uses them when needed. Katy can switch gears with fluidity, but the pace she plays with is never out of control. Even though she seems quiet and reserved… she’s is as tough as they come and there’s no backdown in her game. Her skillset will translate to the next level with ease. She will dominate without the ball.. or with the ball. Beyond talented.
The Wisconsin commit and her Back2Back State championship team came into Illinois on business.. blowout win and then a trip back home (The matching walk in shoes.. should’ve put everyone on notice). At the forefront of that was Gracie. Purple Aces program puts out top level kids.. and thats exactly what she is. Versatile, High IQ and a motor that never seems to slow down. She can knockdown the long ball, be dominate on the block and her length allows her to be impactful on both sides of the court as well. A skillset that will translate to the next level seamlessly.
