Continue ReadingAnn Arbor Prep hosted their annual opening week tournament this year, which draws some of the best teams across the state. Great teams often bring great kids that fly under the radar but are indispensable, which was the case today. In the opening game, Dexter used a strong half to pull away from Plymouth Christian, a Division 4 semi-finalist from last year. The second game saw heroics from a Heritage freshman to eke out a close victory. The young Gabriel Richard team came to age against state power Westfield Prep, the eventual victor. The home team came out victorious in a heavy weight battle against a very game Tecumseh team.

The rookie deserves a lot of respect for taking the helm of a Division I program so young. She does a great job of pushing the ball in transition. Addison is a great drive and kick player and rebounds well for her position.
Last year, the senior was a second team all conference, and it was easy to see why. She has nice midrange moves that put a ton of pressure on defenses that are trying to keep up with a couple of other good players. I loved her running hook out of the midpost.
The Heritage senior is an absolute beast on the boards. She kept her team in the game when the offensive scheme wasn’t working. Her length and athleticism gave her opponent fits on both sides of the ball.
The Lansing junior is a little bit of a Swiss Army knife. She does a nice job of defending perimeter players and pushes the ball in transition. She is a steady finisher and has good feel for when to take her shot and when to pass.

Shout out to a rookie that handled the Arbor Prep pressure like a pro. She found open passing lanes, rebounded, and shut down her opponent. The young kid has a bright future.
