Richards and her Lansing Catholic squad will take on Mumford on Wednesday. Richards will play a key role in the matchup. It will be interesting to watch her control the pace and get her team into offensive sets. These are 2 of her strengths as a guard and 2 keys to the game as well.

Anna Richards Anna Richards 5'9" | PG Lansing Catholic | 2024 State MI was on fire for the Cougars in a Catholic league showdown Friday night. Game notes: top of key 3, left handed runner, finish at the rim, wing 3, top of the key 3, & contested floater. She has the downhill drives and smooth dribbling to handle pressure and finish, but also the sharpshooting ability to pull up at any time. Anna is an impressive guard for Lansing Catholic.

Richards was outstanding in her team’s loss to Detroit Renaissance. She showed that she can have the offense run through her and can match athleticism and speed with her own athleticism and quickness. Richards was dynamic on offense, showing that she could score in a half court set as well as in a fast paced open floor game. She finished with a game high 25 points.

I think there’s a theme to this year’s player of the year and honorable mentions. Stay tuned. Richards was the key ball handler and decision maker for the D2 state title team.

She is undoubtedly the MVP of the Division II semis. The kid hit three monster threes at huge moments. It looked like Lansing Catholic was going to be run out of the gym and was down double digits after the first and down one to start the Fourth Quarter. Instead, Anna went 12 for 13 from the line in line to 28 points. The game ended up being a double digit win. Her work in beating pressure was also admirable.

Richards faced an incredibly tough task. If you know girls basketball in Michigan, you know that Doc Cornell coached teams are going to bring the fire defensively. Richards had the task of being one of the primary ball handlers against possibly the most intense defense in the state. She did an admirable job. On top of that, she hit some big 3 point shots especially early, and once they beat the press or broke the trap she got the ball where it needed to go.
