2022 is on its way out, and 2023 is on its way in. Every week, we see some new and familiar faces, but as I’ve been covering the 205 region this week, I’ve discovered we have some major talent in this great state.I got to see some real-deal ballers, and I had to wipe my eyes a few times to be sure I wasn’t dreaming. These young girls are great at what they do as fierce competitors, incredible team leaders, and players who hold responsibility at a higher level. Coaches should be running the books to tag these young ladies into their programs, and it needs to happen right away!
So let’s dive into some Alabama girls basketball!
Hooks is well-known for her tenacity and shooting skill. She has exceptional size for a point guard and excellent ball-handling abilities. Hooks has the speed or quickness that some of the other top guards lack, as well as more high-level experience than the majority of them. Hooks also has a strong jump shot that she can hit on the move and off the bounce. One of Hooks’ strongest qualities is her ability to make jump shots while moving. She maintained a constant scoring percentage during her time at Hewitt-Trussville High School. Hooks recently joined the 1,000-point club, which is an incredible achievement. Hooks has done something very extraordinary, and it shows in each and every game. Hooks has a smooth and rapid release, as well as a tremendously deep range that allows her to score well for her team. Hooks moves effectively without the ball, changing speed and direction frequently to get away, and she is ready to shoot instantly after the grab. Hooks with a high athleticism dynamic may be lethal firing off screens and handoffs. Covering hooks has been nothing short of fantastic this season, and she will continue to do well with each step she makes.

Trotter has had an amazing midseason at Chelsea High School, developing as a two-way force with exceptional flexibility while showing glimpses of skills as a midrange shooter, ball handler, and passer that allow her tremendous space for long-term improvement. Trotter has good size for a power forward and a combination of power and explosiveness that will allow her to shine during the 2022–2023 season. Trotter is a fiercely competitive defender who can slow down guards, wings, and bigs. Trotter is also fast off her feet to challenge shots and is a force in the passing lanes due to her length and quickness. Trotter is a steady offensive player with good shooting mechanics and decision-making skills who has a large influence on the game, particularly with her passing and ability to push the ball off the defensive glass. Trotter has a high upside as a prospect due to her physical style of play, terrific personality, and competitive spirit. Making progress with her jumper and defense might catapult her into the top five, and I’m here for it.
AND1 @HaleyTrotter23 Big win over Thompson. @HaleyTrotter23 with a double double 13 pts 10 rb. @dolphin7202400 pic.twitter.com/tJvcSKYdIm

Highlights
Sophia Brown
Sophia Brown
Brown proved to be more than just a great shooter this season, with numerous excellent cuts and acrobatic finishes, including a mid-range pull-up jumper, an attack on a closeout, and a difficult finish through contact. Brown shows great line to the basket to finish at the rim. She also comes off pick and rolls nicely to hit very good jump shots or even pitch outs for a 3 pointer to a teammate. Brown continues to make a great defensive impact this season, heating up the ball in the backcourt, coming up with deflections, and earning an offensive foul, locking up some big-time playmakers. Brown has a solid foundation thanks to her effort level, anticipation abilities off the ball, and toughness. Brown is a terrific player who has shown tremendous potential in every game this season. Brown is an all-around athlete that offers her squad with enthusiasm, leadership, and accountability. This enables her to keep everyone focused on the same goal: winning a championship for Chelsea High School.
Let’s talk about one one of the most dynamic high school basketball players in the state of Alabama. Kelly is such a poised and equipped basketball player with a very smart basketball IQ. Kelly shows a strength of speed, flexibility, and adapting to the game. During one of her games, Kelly showed the entire bag, making 3s off the bounce, changing speed and direction suddenly with incredible footwork, finishing creatively in traffic, spraying the ball out to open teammates, threading the needle in the open court, and bringing energy on the defensive end of the floor. I’ve seen crafty shot creators like Kelly before, but it’s rare that they also have the defensive engine and drive that she does. She also demonstrates true leadership traits on a regular basis, pushing teammates for lack of effort or accepting responsibility for her own faults. Kelly Game is aiding with the well-developed talent on her Hoover High School squad. College coaches could only dream of having an athlete like Kelly, who possesses a wide range of abilities and much more. Oh, let’s not forget she’s committed to the University of North Carolina and a 2000-point club member, Point Guard.
The moment @ReniyaKelly broke the All-Time leading scorer record held by 2008 graduate and @RazorbackWBB alum Lyndsay (Harris) Moncrief! Reniya needed 14 points coming into the game to break the record; she finished with 18 points! Congratulations again Ten! 👏🏽🧡🖤 pic.twitter.com/eZ5GnLLKWh
