Walked across the street from where I live in Corona, California to check out the local high school for the first time, the Corona Panthers Girls Basketball team, they were taking on another local city team in Don Lugo HS. The game turned out to be a pretty good one and I was surprised at some of the talent in the game and that led to me watching a finding some girls that need to be added to the rankings for sure. Hope you guys enjoy the evaluations, some of these girls are pretty good and now I return to watch them Saturday play another team at home. Here we go.
Don Lugo HS Game Performers:
Win over Corona Panthers with a score of 62-52
#0 – Elizabeth Camargo – 14pts
#20 – Makena Encarnacion – 14pts
#2 – Maliyah Alvarez 13pts
#30 – Isabella Medina – 5pts
2024, 5’10, PF, Makena Encarnacion – big forward that can shoot the ball from the midrange, hustles on the floor and is pretty good at dealing in the paint. Gets rebounds and can push it as well. Also showed us she can shoot the three ball with some consistency and make big plays for her team when it was needed. Great size and uses her body well in the paint as a power forward. Back to basket skills are developing, but this girl can play on the perimeter.
2024, 5’10, SF, Isabella Medina – nice lengthy wing that can rebound the ball and get the ball to the guards to push the transition break. She used her size wel in the paint to secure rebounds and then kick it out to the guard and then she filled the lanes to get easy buckets. Nice long and good body type, she will be a great wing for a program in college.
2023, 5’1, SG, Maliyah Alavarez – aggressive guard that likes to attack the gaps on the floor and get the ball to her scorers. She plays decent defense in the full court press and can score in transition. Showed me she could hit the three ball with great precision and made most of the shots on the catch, but with a hand in her face, it did not bother her at all. She was feisty in the trapping defense and got steals that turned into transition buckets for her team.
2023, 5’3, PG, Elizabeth Camargo – savvy point guard that has a great handle and can shoot the ball from the perimeter. She is also an aggressive guard on both sides of the ball. Great setup guard. She showed us that she can command the floor and is worthy of being ranked in her class. Smooth criminal.. She took over the game in the second half and willed her team to the victory with great passing skills and good reads on the floor, this kid should be getting some looks, she made things look very easy, very composed in my opinion.
