We watched the semifinals games where St. James defeated host Sullivan and Owensville defeated Steelville. St. James took home the championship with a thrilling two-point victory over Owensville. Here is a look at some of the top standouts from the tournament.
Abby Peterson (Sullivan): The 5’11” 2023 UMSL recruit is a versatile wing player who plays virtually every position for her team. She scored 20 points in the semifinal game against St. James that I watched. She handles the ball and serves as the main facilitator for the Eagles. She can also go inside and post up and get buckets in the paint. She will also grab the rebound and take off and lead the break. A very impressive all-around player.
Kendall Costoplos Kendall Costoplos 5'10" | SF St. James | 2024 State MO (St. James): A 5’10” 2024 forward who put in a lot of good work in leading her team to the tournament championship. She has some excellent moves in the low post to score. Her rebounding was also very good as she worked hard to get position. She also attacked the offensive boards for putbacks. In the victory over Sullivan in the semifinals, she controlled the defensive boards in the fourth quarter.
Livi Herron (St. James): A 5’6″ 2023 point guard who has good speed and quickness to go along with a nice feel for the game. She makes a lot of good hustle plays, but she puts herself in the right position to make those plays. She penetrates in the lane well and will find the open teammate with the drop off. She also hit a number of Corner 3-pointers in the tournament.
Camryn Caldwell Camryn Caldwell 5'5" | PG Owensville | 2025 State MO (Owensville): A 2025 point guard who has good fundamentals and a nice feel for the game. She can play the point guard or she can play off the ball very effectively. She is an excellent 3-point shooter who was knocking down big ones in the Dutchgirls’ victory over Steelville in the semifinals. She scored 19 points and hit five 3-pointers in the win.
Regan Martin (Steelville): A 5’9″ 2023 forward who has a unique blend of size and physical strength to excel in the low post, but she also has the playmaking skills to excel on the perimeter. I called her Lady Jokic because she could dribble herself into position to knock down short jumpers and runners off the glass. She can also hit the open 3-pointer. She was also dropping off nice dimes to open teammates who were cutting to the basket.
Emma Daniels Emma Daniels 5'7" | PG Owensville | 2024 State MO (Owensville): A 5’6″ 2023 guard who plays with a nice offensive flow to her game. She has a nice shooting stroke from 3-point range. She can shoot it off the catch and she can also get herself in position to shoot it with her good footwork or a ball fake to elude a defender. She can also drive it and pull up and knock down the short jumper.
Daylan Pryor (Steelville): A 2023 point guard who plays the game with a lot of pace as she loves to push the ball and put pressure on the defense. She is a good finisher on the drive. She also has good defensive instincts as she can be disruptive on the front end of the zone defense. She has a knack of baiting the opposing player of making a pass and she’ll dart into the passing lanes to make the steal to start the transition game.
Kenadee Smith (St. James): A 2024 guard who provided a nice spark off the bench with her instant offense. She entered the game and immediately knocked down a 3-pointer in the semifinal game that I watched. She also rebounded well and she can get to the basket and get herself to the free throw line.
