Fierce battles went on the hardwood as players duked it out each possession.From knocking down clutch shots to executing plays with precision, girls from the mid-state got better over the course of this outstanding tournament.
Here are a few standouts from the PHS Christmas Tournament in Portland ,TN.
Merli Route (Fr./G/CPA)– The little engine that could, this kid’s confidence grows every time she steps on the floor. Was a bucket from downtown this tournament, straight fire. Was clutch on defense and ran her team’s offense efficiently. Great with the ball, a coach on the floor, bringing energy and effort every possession . Fun kid to watch and play.
Lily Morrow Lily Morrow 5'11" | SG CPA | 2026 State TN ( Fr./F/ CPA)– straight baller. Tough kid whose stock is sure to rise throughout this season. Can knock it down from the arc, but is a bucket 15ft and in. Hard on the boards, can push the ball in tempo, is going to give you the business on both ends of the floor. Great two way player who brings it every time she steps on the floor.
Bethany Howard (Jr./F/Pope Prep) long and lanky, blessed with quick hands and feet. Can attack to get down hill. Creates turnovers on the defensive end, leading to transition buckets. Has a nice mid range game that compliments her ability to get to the painted area. Great defender and rebounder.
Natalie Kaye Natalie Kaye 5'9" | SG Grace Christian Academy | 2024 State TN (Jr./G/ Grace Christian Academy-Franklin)– lunch pail kind of girl who is passionate about the game. Has a nice first step that enables her to get down hill to score. Can shoot it efficiently from beyond the arc. Heady player who is very coachable. Deceptive speed, can score it in transition if being pressed. Poised with the ball in her hands, has the ability to see the floor and make the right play.
Taya Totten(So./G/ Portland) – tough kid. Has a nice stroke from the mid range. Can get to the rack or knock it down from deep. Heady player who thrives at attacking gaps and creating. Great instincts on the defensive end where she creates turnovers leading to transition buckets.
Mckenzie Kaye (Jr./F/Grace Christian Academy)– Solid contributor that does the little things for her club. The utility girl on the squad, this coachable player is willing and able to do whatever to help her team win. Offensively, she can work down low or finish for high % shots or knock it down from deep. Defensively, she can guard a big or match up with a guard. She’s a competitor that possesses both intelligence and speed. Look for her to make even more strides as the season moves forward and her confidence grows.
