Continue ReadingTo close the year, I’d like to talk about some kids who have averaged a double-double through this first chunk of the season. These kids are from all over the state and do different things to help their teams succeed, but the constant is they all average a double-double.
Sadie Cox
The Lenox sophomore is going into 2023 with averages of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Cox is leading the Tigers in every statistical category and has helped the Tigers to a winning record going into the new year. Cox has been the main piece for the Tigers this season and has found ways to help her team compete and win games in the early portion of the season.
Paytn Harter
The Trojans are off to a 7-3 start to the season, and Harter has been a significant reason why. She’s averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds per game. The sophomore has grabbed over a third of the team’s rebounds this season and has over half of the team’s offensive rebounds. Harter has been crucial to the Trojans’ early season success, and her consistency has been what has helped the Trojans build some momentum going into the new year. I like kids who do everything to help their team win games, and Harter is one of those kids.
Katie Costello
The Waterloo Christian forward has been the most productive player the Regents have had this season. Costello leads the team in every statistical category aside from blocked shots. Most of the team’s offense goes through Costello and possessions on the defensive end, with a Costello rebound most of the time. The junior is a player who gets her hands on every aspect of the game, which makes life easier for all the other players on the Regents roster. The Regents have been competitive this season, and much of that is down to Costello.
Lillie Petersen Lillie Petersen 6'0" | PF Bettendorf | 2023 State IA
The UW-Parkside commit has recorded over a third of Bettendorf’s rebounds and has led the Bulldogs in scoring through the first portion of the season. Petersen has also been an effective scorer while being the kid that opposing teams highlight first on the scouting report. She’s even stepped out and made some 3-pointers with low volume effectively early in the season. She’s one of the leaders in assists on the Bulldogs, showing her versatility. Petersen is a dynamic forward who’s been indispensable for the Bulldogs this season.
