This season, the Nova leads the way with free-throw attempts in the state with 47. The Milwaukee Academy of Science guard is one of the best in Wisconsin at getting to the rim. Ellis’ strength, quickness, and craftiness around the basket make her one of the most challenging guards to keep out of the lane. Even though Ellis is elite at getting to the basket, she doesn’t take many perimeter jumpers. She’s a bit of a throwback guard, but she makes it work.
After four games this season, West averages nearly 36 points per game. The La Follette guard has been one of the most dominant guards in Wisconsin thus far, scoring over 40 in two of her four games thus far. The Lancer is currently getting to the free-throw line 11.5 times per contest, which is an absurd number. However, that still doesn’t feel like it quantifies how impressive she’s been over the first few weeks. Teams are keying in on West every game, and she still finds ways to control games. I can’t suggest seeing her play enough if you’re around Madison.
Allyson Kakes
The 5-foot-10 wing from Two Rivers is the name that took me by surprise when researching this topic. Kakes has shot the third most free-throws in Wisconsin, with 41 in her first five games. However, Kakes has put together an impressive first few games. She’s averaging 24 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists for the Purples Raiders. After starting the season with that production, I’ll keep tabs on her for the rest of the season.
Grace Schisel Grace Schisel 5'8" | SG New Holstein | 2023 State WI
The Grand View commit is one of the most accomplished shooters in Wisconsin. This season, Schisel has gotten to the line much more than she did in her junior campaign, which is something that usually doesn’t happen. The senior has played with more aggression this season, and it’ll be something that will likely carry over into college. A more perimeter-oriented kid expanding her game and becoming a more well-rounded offensive threat may not seem as important in December. However, New Holstein will be more dangerous in the postseason because she can do everything on the offensive end.
