The games span four days and bring in teams from the border to the UP. It’s a full slate of games that start at nine in the morning and go past nine at night. Most of the games on Day 1 came down to the final minute and had some strong performances. These kids really stood out.
The junior showcased high level finishes and a sweet stroke on her way to 18 points. She had a ton of steals and rebounds as well as some sweet passes. South Lake went on a mini-run with her on the bench, which ended quickly upon Tayla’s return. She had an off shooting night, but her form is pure. I feel like she is a little under recruited at the moment, especially with a 4.0 GPA.

Frankenmuth is one of the best DII programs in the state and is filled with stars year in and year out. Clare is a kid that goes unnoticed but is vital in Muth’s success. She led the team in scoring and did it without requiring heavy usage. She is active on defense, in the press, and on the boards. She can take over ball handling duties- the kid is a Swiss Army knife.

I’ve watched Jada almost a dozen times, and her clutch factor is what always impresses me the most. She had a low scoring game, by her standards, but she completely occupies all of her opponent’s focus, which opened up a ton of opportunities for her teammates. She can get past the first layer of defense with ease and has the ability to lock down on defense. She has a deadly deep game and is a willing passer.

The freshman got her chance to shine on a big stage and played beyond her years. She is a strong off ball defender and keeps the ball in front of her as well. She makes the right pass, yet she also has the ability to get downhill with a quick first step. She has a wicked crossover. The sky is the limit for this youngster.
The Hamady-Oscoda game saw a matchup of freshman point guards that would be fun to run again in three years. Fields got the upper hand on the scorecards with her 21 points. She is a physical kid that runs through screens and tries to box kids off the court. She has quick hands, which she used to get the key pick six steal that wrapped up the win.
