The games span four days and bring in teams from the border to the UP. It’s a full slate of games that start at nine in the morning and go past nine at night. Most of the games on Day 1 came down to the final minute and had some strong performances. We are going to give some props to kids that play roles that don’t get the glory but get the wins, that just outwork others so their teammates get opportunities to shine- unsung heroes.
Pressure, Pressure, Pressure. Mia is a kid that puts pressure on defenses with her relentless drives and quick first step. She is also a kid that makes ball handlers want to cry as she is a very physical lead guard that has quick hands. She picks up a ton of steals and deflections. Props to her for sealing a victory at the line.
Aisling Rankin

It was a great day for the Rankin sisters, as both balled out against a very good Frankenmuth team. Aisling showcased a high level midrange game and made floaters/teardrops with both hands. Muth presses the snot out of teams, and Aisling was one of the kids that had the motor and speed to break pressure. She seeks contact, rebounds with the bigs, and is a constant communicator.
Kingsley Backstrom

The sophomore played a crucial role in the Oscoda game plan against Hamady’s zone. She is a super active high post player that is physical and willing to scrap for loose balls. She is a high energy rebounder with good footwork. She seeks contact and is active in passing lanes.
The KCC senior flirted with a triple double with a stat line of 17 points and nearly double digits in steals and rebounds. Kynnedy is fearless going to the rack and draws contact nearly every time. Her length and motor gives teams fits on both ends of the court. She is a willing and productive passer that can also protect the rim with a large wingspan.
Isabelle Trombley

The PH Junior has a nose for the ball and has the motor to put that nose to work. She was in the thick of every rebound and scrum; plus, Isabelle has the hit contested shots. Her energy is contagious. My favorite thing about her is how quickly she makes passes (shows high IQ).
