Tumwater has been the powerhouse program in recent years and they have talent back. Timberline has one of the best freshman in the state. North Thurston has a dynamic sophomore guard. W.F West has a dominant post player. Here’s a closer look at some early performances in the South Sound area.

The lightning quick guard put up 33 points in the season opener vs Olympia. She is electric on the floor. Her skill set is phenomenal for a sophomore guard. She has an arsenal of moves, pull-up jumpers, step back threes. You name it, she’s got it going. She gets herself open using her great ball handling skills. She is quick with her dribble and has it on a string. That is what you notice immediately when watching her. She can handle the rock. As I mentioned in a previous article, she is the one of the most, if not the most skilled player in the South Sound area. She is only a sophomore. Look for her to be a superstar in the next 3 years.
She’s back for her senior season after helping Tumwater to a league and district title last season. She averaged 13 points a game a year ago. She has started this season with 20 points in a 73-56 win over Hockinson and 15 points, 10 rebounds in a 53-33 win over Washougal. She is just a good all around player who has great athleticism. She plays inside and out. She shoots the ball well and has a nice touch, to go along with some nice moves. She reads and reacts with confidence of a veteran player on a good team. She is a better athlete than most on the floor and she uses that to get buckets. She will be a huge part of Tumwater’s success this season as a senior leader.

Defense. She loves to play defense and is exceptionally quick and can move her feet sideline to sideline as quickly as any guard I’ve seen. You show her the ball and she will kindly take it. She has 16 steals in the first two games and those were not by accident. She gets up into her opponent and is a dawg on the court. She is relentlessly good at playing defense. She is also a good ball handling distributing guard. She can score as well and has a good looking jumper. She was 2 for 3 on threes vs Washougal, finishing with a near triple double. 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 steals. Defense. The defense is what you will notice first. She can flat out D up! Her ball skills are good. She’s a good leader on the floor. A point guard you want on your side.

I have already written about her in my record shattering article. She set a school record with 36 points in a game and is averaging 32 in three games thus far. As a freshman point guard. She is also averaging 8.7 steals per game. There are some girls who like to take the ball away from people here in the South Sound. Another telling stat is that she has already taken 33 free throws in 3 games. I haven’t been able to find film on her yet but look forward to seeing her play with those numbers.

She scored 29 points in a win over Port Angeles. She will be tough to stop in the post. She has some nice moves on the block and with her size uses that to get some easy baskets. If she doesn’t get the first one, she will often get the second one. She is lined up to be the primary scoring option for the Bearcats in her sophomore season.
