McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5'4" | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA
Newell-Fonda is a top-four team in Iowa heading into the winter break and has beaten all comers. Sievers is a significant reason why the Mustangs have been as good as they have been this season. The senior currently averages eight assists per game and leads the state in assists per game. Her ability to create for her teammates helps the other Mustangs get into a rhythm, and she has nearly a 4:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Mustangs are maximizing every possession they have and winning games.
Nicole Sherer
Sherer is better and making her team’s offense better than she is at doing everything herself. Woodbine will head into the new year undefeated and in the top ten of teams in 1A, and they are like Newell-Fonda. Both teams have a lead guard who doesn’t turn the ball over and creates easy offense for their teammates. Sherer’s ability to rack up six assists per game, along with earning over six steals per game, shows how good she is at ending possessions in a positive way for her team.
Macy Comito
The freshman has an innate ability to create and handle a significant role within an offense. Outside a few losses this season, Carlisle has been good, entering the new year with a 7-2 record and the No. 7 spot in 4A. Comito has played a significant role in the Wildcats’ success. Not only has she led the Wildcats in scoring, but she’s led the team in assists. Not only has Comito led in assists, but with all the responsibility she’s had with the ball, she’s had a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. She’s had a few struggles in the new environment, but they’re hard to find amongst the success. Comito and the Wildcats have had this season.
Jenna Pitz Jenna Pitz 5'7" | PG Ankeny | 2023 State IA
What makes Pitz an excellent creator is her aggression. She forces defenses to react to her, and she’s continued to do that in her senior campaign. Pitz’s aggression isn’t the easiest thing for defenses to prepare or handle, and it helps Ankeny get easy looks on the offensive end, and that leads to them competing in games some people think they shouldn’t. She’s a unique athlete.
