Sievers is averaging just over 8 assists per game coming out of break and looking to handle business the rest of this season. The Newell-Fonda Mustangs aren’t a stranger to success. Over the past handful of seasons, this team and moreso program, has been dominant on a number of different levels in their 2A class. One of the major reasons for their success is due to the players they have on roster, players like McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5'4" | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA . Sievers has been a constant on this team for years because of her ability to create and distribute. To begin her Senior season, Sievers is sitting with a 2.65 Assist-To-Turnover ratio, giving her one of the best ratios throughout the entire state. If you have been following girls high school basketball in Iowa the past few years, you know all about Sievers game. McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5'4" | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA brings energy and positive vibes to her Newell-Fonda team each game. That was something that stood out to me the most the last time that I had the opportunity to see the Mustangs compete. In a program that is consistently getting to the State Championship and sometimes even winning it, to be a main player in that system is big time. It means that you can come in and be successful with others around you at a high rate. When you break down Sievers actual game you get a pure SG. Someone that knows her abilities and plays within her own means a majority of the time. From a coaching standpoint, sometimes you have individuals on the court that try to do too much and because of that, they fail. That is the complete opposite case in this situation. Sievers keeps it simple and does the little things for her teammates, leading to wins throughout the duration of a heated contest. Overall, Newell-Fonda is going to be relevant again this winter and I’m excited to see what they are going to bring to the table.

and Newell-Fonda high school made it to the state tournament this year once again after putting together a 24-3 season, eventually losing in the 1A state championship to power-house Bishop Garrigan high school by a final score of 68-57. Sievers showed out though. She displayed that she can be a leader of a team and successful while doing it. She did a good job of controlling pace and making the right choices throughout the longevity of her games. In the championship she may not of scored the ball at a high rate but she led her team in rebounds with 8 and in assists with 4, including only throwing 1 total turnover throughout the game. Honestly this whole team played well in the championship. They just ran into one of the most dominating high school players in the country in

. Crooks ended up scoring 49 of her teams 68 from the post position, something that’s hard for guards to do anything about. Looking into summer I’m excited to watch Sievers join up with her Play4Him team again. A program and team that has some real ballers involved, Sievers included.

McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5'4" | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA and Newell-Fonda have their eye on the prize this season when it comes to goals and it’s one thing, making it back to that state playoff with a chance at a championship. Sievers has been the #1 distributor of the junior class thus far this season on the way to a 13-2 record. She has been the point guard that has been really filling up the stat sheet in most categories for her team. She is averaging just over 7 APG while registering 11.1 PPG on 51% shooting and 5.1 RPG. The best way to describe her game would be as the “energy” player of the team. She records a lot of these stats by purely being in better shape and outworking her opponent. It seems like at all points she just always has more energy than the people on the court with her, something that I don’t see as ever being a bad thing for herself. I think this team is going to make it far this season with Sievers and their group of upperclassman, which will give Sievers the ability to pass out more assists, keeping her in that #1-assist spot by the end of the year. Currently in the overall rankings she was set at the 85th rank but looking toward future updates I’m sure that she is going to be making leaps and bounds on that list, most likely moving her into the top 25, if not a little higher. An accomplishment to be extremely proud of completing in just one high school season.

McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5'4" | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA and the Newell-Fonda Mustangs are 11-2 overall in their first 13 games this season, including 5-0 in conference. Sievers has been the metaphorical “head of the snake” for the Mustangs on their journey this season. She is currently averaging 10.9 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 7.4 APG while tailing up 41 steals thus far. This team has a lot of different weapons in the forms of different players but they will only go as Sievers does. She is their team leader, coach on the court, and overall play maker. She may not be the first scoring option but she takes a lot of pride in her ability to create for others and pass the ball. It seems from an outside view that she gets just as much, if not as much joy, passing the ball leading to an assist rather than scoring a bucket for herself. This is a trait not many players possess but those who do, shine. With that being said the point of Sievers place in this article is to highlight how efficient she has been scoring the ball this year. She comes into this ranked as #2 throughout the state in efficient field goal percentage. This tells everyone that the shots she does choose to take are high percentage looks. When playing for a high level program like Newell-Fonda, who will have good shot at a state championship this season, it shows a lot that she can run a successful offense and system.
