Continue ReadingThis is the third and final report of my coverage of the 2022 Annual Larry Ray Tournament held at Jessieville High School. There were many talented student/athletes on the court throughout the tournament. Included in these Honorable Mention and All-Tournament players were a handful of role players that brought an unbelievable amount of energy to their perspective teams. Some were starters, many were not. These kids come off the bench and put it all on the floor. They give their team a spark. They’ll get a steal or a rebound, or, maybe take a charge, or go to the floor for a loose ball and change the momentum of the game. Below is my list of those “high-energy” players and what they do for their teams;
Preslea Morris 5’4″ SG Danville H.S. 2024-Preslea, pictured above in the dark uniform, is usually undersized in her matchup, but don’t let that fool you. She’s fast and quick enough to make up the difference. She plays hard and will blow by you if you hesitate. When she comes off the bench the game immediately speeds up. She has no problem going to the floor for a loose ball. Preslea energizes her team.
Kendall Qualls 5’4″ SG Mt. Ida H.S. 2025-Kendall plays hard! She’s quick and will sneak in the passing lane for a steal. Her motor is always on high. Sometimes it gets her in trouble, but more times than not it produces a boost for her team. And she’s just a sophomore.
Kennedi Scrivner 5’8″ SG Jessieville H.S. 2025-Another sophomore, Kennedi does the dirty work for her team. She rebounds, sets screens, picks up loose balls, and basically gets the rock to the scorers. She’s very unselfish. But if they need her to score, she”ll do that too.
Jordan Dodd 5’5″ SG Central Arkansas Christian 2024-Jordan does a little bit of everything. Her main job is to get the ball to her bigs. When the double team appears, she’s behind the 3-line ready to knock it down. She”s not the fastest or quickest on the court, but she might be the smartest.
Tori Lingo 5’7″ F Bismarck H.S. 2024-This high energy forward normally plays in and around the lane. She can post up bigger opponents because of her strength. Tori is the go-to player inside when they need a bucket. Usually, she scores or is shooting a free throw.
Emma Pittman 5’7″ SG Caddo Hills H.S. 2025-Just a sophomore, Emma is a high-energy player that can shoot the three ball or drive to the basket. She is always around the ball. She’s long and is a very good rebounder. With more upper body strength, she could be an excellent rebounder.
Kyleigh Covey 5’7″ SG Cutter Morning Star 2024-When Kyleigh is on the court her team seems to play faster. She can play the point if necessary, but primarily at the swing guard position. She’ll run in transition or rebound inside with the bigs. She’s fearless.
All of these players represent what a team needs to be successful. They fill in the gaps both offensively and defensively to help their teams compete. Job well done!
