I added 11 players to the 2023 list, all are capable of playing at some level of the next level and before anyone tells me they’re better than someone, that might be true, but again, if I don’t see you, I don’t write it
Here’s part 1 of the New Additions
#25 Kelis Grant Kelis Grant 5'8" | SG Cedar Hill | 2023 State TX -5’8 CG (Cedar Hill) Sam Houston
Grant smoothly understands how to not only create her shot under pressure but to set the defender up multiple ways. Her first step is one way yet her variety of fakes, as well as her ballhandling, enable her to not only get her shot off but knock it down with a hand in her face are other ways. Mid to long-range is good, yet her attacking the basket and finishing strongly after contact is really nice. She plays solid defense, from baseline to baseline. She also rebounds and plays the passing lane
#38 Alana Goosby Alana Goosby 5'7" | CG Allen | 2023 State TX -5’7 CG (Allen) Cal Poly
Goosby is explosive off the dribble and when you factor in her body control while attacking the basket, coupled with her acrobatic finishes, she just makes things happen. She also elevates on her jumper and that is big because she not only dropped it in the set but in transition and her stop and pop are nothing to ignore. She does a good job defending, ” on the ball”, she understands how and when to switch and forces players into the trap, but she also has quicks hands and comes away with steals
#47 Elizabeth Abiara Elizabeth Abiara 6'3" | C Mansfield Lakeridge | 2023 State TX -6’3 C (Mansfield Lakeridge) Central Arkansas
Abiara was inadvertently omitted, that’s on me, yet she was simply dominant on the inside and definitely showed plenty of progression. Her college-ready frame was there, now the college-ready game is shaping up as she is taking the punishment with ease and scoring around the basket with players literally hanging on her. She also showed some nice moves around the basket, even faced the basket to score yet her rebounding, on both ends of the court, her running the floor, on both ends and her interior defense all have elevated
#52 Joy Madison-Key Joy Madison-Key 5'7" | CG South Grand Prairie | 2023 State TX -5’7 CG (South Grand Prairie) Tulane
Madison-Key has the ability to unlock so many things on the court, mainly because of her composure under pressure, she doesn’t get flustered with the double team not traps yet she just understands how to control the tempo. Her court vision was a big plus, she knocked down shots from the outside but she also attacked off the dribble and finished with either hand, after contact. I also enjoyed her defense but her playing within herself was equally impressive
#54 Micah Vaughn Micah Vaughn 6'1" | PF Cedar Hill | 2023 State TX – 6’1 PF/C (Cedar Hill) Seward
Vaughn is another player I inadvertently omitted, cut and paste doesn’t always work however let me cut to the chase. She’s “long and athletic” which will always be the base but watching her score around the basket with either hand when I caught her at the Baytown Tournament, JUST DID IT for me. She’s strong yet can also show the finest around the rim, scoring not only facing it but from the mid to long range. Her timing is a big plus because she blocks shots, but she also comes out of nowhere to grab rebounds
