I got the opportunity to see really good games, some great individual play, and a championship game that came down to the last possession. Let’s take a look at some of the players that stood out.
Taniyah Carter | PG | England | 2024
I love going to games and seeing teams I rarely get to see and finding a diamond in the rough. Taniyah quickly got my attention with her effort and how hard she was playing. She’s a quick athletic point guard that uses her speed and ball handling skills to get to the basket. Taniyah was able to finish in a number of different ways at the rim, get her teammates involved, apply good on-ball pressure, and she ran the team well.
Ariel Penister | Post | England | 2023
Every team needs size down low that can control the paint. Ariel did a good job of rebounding and blocking or altering shots in the paint. Her outlet passes were quick and on point to initiate the fast break. She has a soft touch around the basket that allowed her to score in traffic or against pressure.
Kamie Jenkins Kamie Jenkins 6'1" | C Southside | 2023 State AR | Forward | Southside | 2023
Kamie is a dominant forward that will snatch every rebound that comes off the rim. The first night of the tournament she grabbed 19 rebounds, so I knew coming into this game she was going to get 10+ rebounds. I lost count during the first quarter, but I know she had around 7. She finished the game with 16 points and 17 rebounds. She can score in a variety of ways on the low block and make plays off the dribble.
Callie Robbins | Guard | Southside | 2023
Callie was a huge contributor in the championship game. She led the team in scoring with 18 points. Those buckets came in a number of different ways. She showed she could attack off the dribble, scored in transition, knocked down threes, and gave great effort on defense.
D’Mya Eason | PG | Lonoke | 2025
D’Mya is an aggressive guard that looks to put pressure on the defense with her attacking mentality. She can get to the rim and make plays for herself or her teammates, she pushes the ball well in transition, and can make on-target passes off the dribble. D’Mya made the short mid-range jumper off the dribble and has good footwork on her finishes. Also plays with good energy on both ends of the floor.
