On Thursday January 26th the Lady Huskies of Hamilton traveled to Central Phoenix to take on Xavier in a battle of 6A premier foes.

Xavier jumped out quick to a 7-2 lead with defensive pressure that turned Hamilton over repeatedly. As Hamilton began to solve the press they went on a run of their own and took a 15-14 lead in the first quarter. Xavier went on a 10-3 run as they ended the first quarter with a 24-18 lead. The second quarter was slowed with continuous fouls being called. The score was tied at half 33-all.

The third quarter was pretty much the same as Hamilton had the lead after 3. The fourth quarter belonged to Ulrich as she led the way on a 8-0 run that gave Xavier a 61-54 lead. Xavier held on to the lead and won 69-59.

Here I take a look at some of the standouts in a game that had quite a few good prospects.

[player_tooltip player_id='205647' first='Maureen' last='Ulrich'] Xavier College Prep

Ulrich was the star of the game as she put Xavier on her back especially in the fourth quarter. Her physicality was too much for the defenders as she had repeated and one's. She showed a great motor and a will to win.

[player_tooltip player_id='205638' first='Dominique' last='Nesland'] Xavier College Prep

Nesland did what she always does and that's play a solid game from her point guard spot and pick her spots when to score. You can tell she could have scored more but her main focus was winning the game which is a trait of an all around winner. One of the top 2024 players in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='205673' first='Breanna' last='Sommers'] Hamilton

This was my first time seeing Sommers and I was very impressed. She was a load in the paint and has good enough footwork that she was able to work her way out of double teams. She's tough and a good rebounder. She's a prospect who will make some noise.

[player_tooltip player_id='205668' first='Jasmine' last='Olivar'] Xavier College Prep

Olivar came off the bench and made her presence felt immediately. She scored from all three levels and showed a good feel for the game. She showed good court vision when handling the ball and can shoot it.

[player_tooltip player_id='859499' first='Kayla' last='Adams'] PG 5'6 2024 Hamilton

The point guard was quick with the ball from end to end. She showed a good touch from the perimeter and a very good mid range jumper. She was in constant attack mode and had defenders on their heels. She also showed promise as a good perimeter defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='115507' first='Sienna' last='Cherwinski'] Xavier College Prep

The Sonoma State commit is battled tested and it shows every time she plays. She made some very good passes and as always was dangerous as a shooter. She showed her IQ by not trying to dribble through double teams but passed out of them and advanced the ball. She is looking to lead her team on a deep run in the playoffs this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='588731' first='Irene' last='Noelle Guiamatsia'] Xavier College Prep

Despite foul trouble the growing freshman made her presence known on the offensive and defensive end in the game. On the offensive end she kept the ball high and knows how to use the glass when in position. She has a very good touch around the rim. On the defensive side of the ball she rebounded very well keeping the ball high and away from the defenders. She blocked multiple shots with good timing. She's an ever improving prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='205652' first='Savanna' last='Creal'] Hamilton

Creal showed good athleticism and a good motor. She was aggressive on offense knocking down multiple jumpers and running the floor very well. She was very active on defense deflecting balls and making it hard for the person she was guarding to get comfortable.
