Continue ReadingI speak often about attending this tournament which I have been attending since my daughter’s Westside team won it in 2006 becoming the first team from this part of Texas to do so. The countless players I have caught in person from all across the country, many who became household names not only at the next level but that level beyond, WNBA, have been priceless
I only glanced at the Panterettes on opening day in the opening quarter, it doesn’t take me long to “catch and shoot” because one more time, I am a REAL EVALUATOR so looking for progression from those I already know about is basically all I need. Mariah Clayton Mariah Clayton 6'0" | SF Duncanville | 2024 State TX and Jasmine Gipson Jasmine Gipson 6'0" | SF Duncanville | 2025 State TX made my Opening Day Top Performers article
Memphis signee Imani Morris Imani Morris 6'4" | C Duncanville | 2023 State TX didn’t play because of a minor injury. I caught her during the preseason and knew nothing about the talented player from California but her being long and athletic and coming from nowhere to block shots as well as rebound immediately had me jot her name down to be added to the Top 100 and TCU signee Victoria Flores Victoria Flores 5'7" | SG Duncanville | 2023 State TX , one of the best shooters in the state, is out for the season along with Kenidi Glover Kenidi Glover 6'0" | PF Duncanville | 2025 State TX , one of the state’s Top 2025 players
Here’s my drop
Tristen Taylor Tristen Taylor 5'4" | PG Duncanville | 2023 State TX -5’6 PG [2023]
Taylor is one of the top point guards in Texas, she understands how to run a team and control the tempo yet her “headiness” and poise under pressure have always grabbed me. She handles the ball under pressure, has great court vision plus can drop the jumper as well as score off the dribble
Breniya Arnold-5’9 PF [2023]
Arnold goes after everything off the rim and her desire just stands out, not only for rebounding but also for defense. Her scoring around the basket as well as off the dribble was nice
Lainice Hill-5’6 CG [2023]
Hill just goes hard on both ends and her pressure defense, on the ball, baseline to baseline, creates problems, well turnovers and when you factor in her quick hands to come away with steals, that’s another plus. She also understands how to attack the basket where she can score or dish
Tajenae Gooden Tajenae Gooden 5'10" | SG Cedar Hill | 2024 State TX -5’9 SG [2024]
Gooden and that pull-up jumper have impressed me since I saw her doing it in elementary school yet as her range has gotten deeper over the years, she has added the ability to not only create her shot while being pressured but knock down the midrange as well, with a hand in her face
Chloe Mann Chloe Mann 5'8" | SG Duncanville | 2024 State TX -5’8 SG [2024]
Mann’s acrobatic finishes always have me smiling and her explosiveness off the dribble is just on another level. She can attack as well as finish with either hand yet her stop-and-pop jumper in transition needs to be acknowledged because it creates problems for defenders as well
Kierston Russell Kierston Russell 5'10" | SF Duncanville | 2025 State TX -6’1 PF [2025]
Russell has made several steps forward, yeah she showed me she could rebound and what was coming last season, yet she finishes with players literally hanging on her. The solid interior defense has expanded outside the paint
Trystan James Trystan James 6'0" | PF Duncanville | 2025 State TX -6’0 SF/SG [2025]
James has a nice first step which got her wherever she wanted but her strong finishes off the dribble as well as the pull-up jumper definitely caught my eye
Kaylinn Kemp Kaylinn Kemp 5'9" | CG Duncanville | 2025 State TX -5’10 CG [2025]
Kemp is one of the best combo guards in Texas, all classes, and her 1-2 punch is a knockout. She blows by defenders in the set as well as the open court and her on-the-money passes in traffic are very nice yet her body control and ability to create contact are also among the best in the state. She also can score from mid to long-range which places her in the nightmare to defend category
