The tournament was full of small school talent and state ranked teams such as Meadville (Class 1, No. 7), South Shelby (Class 3, No. 3) and NE Cairo (Class 2, No. 4).
In the end, it was Class 1 Meadville that took the championship with a victory over South Shelby. NE Cairo defeated host Salisbury in the third place game. Here is a look at the standout guards and wings from the Salisbury Tournament.
Korrie Holcer Korrie Holcer 5'6" | CG Meadville | 2024 State MO (Meadville): The talented 5’6″ 2024 guard was a standout at both ends of the floor in her team’s victory over South Shelby in the championship game. She scored a game-high 17 points as she displayed her vast offensive skill set. She hit the 3-pointer, created off the dribble and scored on drives with either hand. She was equally effective on the defensive end as she moved her feet and used to quick hands to be disruptive. She displayed some lock-down defensive ability.
Madison Carvajal (Meadville): A 5’7″ 2026 guard who plays with an endless motor at both ends of the court. She would routinely breakdown defenders and attack the basket on fearless drives in the lane. Her cross-over dribble was nice and she used it to get into the lane. She finished with 12 points. She was also a ball-hawk on defense with a game-high six steals.
Miranda Patterson Miranda Patterson 5'7" | CG South Shelby | 2023 State MO (South Shelby): The 2023 Maryville recruit had her best game in the semifinals when she scored 23 points. She is tough on the drive and she was also creative off the dribble in getting her own shot. She has a nice step-back jumper and an effective hesitation move to keep defenders off balance.
Tori Ricketts (Salisbury): A 5’4″ 2025 point guard who scored a team-high 18 points in the third-place game against NE Cairo. She’s quick and she excels in the open court. She does a nice job of breaking the full court press with her speed. She had some nice penetrating drives into the lane and she can hit the open 3-pointer.
Paige Carvajal (Meadville): A 5’5″ 2024 point guard who is a capable ball handler and a very good and willing passer with good court vision. She hit a pair of 3-pointers in the championship game in which she displayed a quick release. She was also good at getting into the passing lanes as she had four steals.
Kaylee Gaines Kaylee Gaines 5'5" | CG South Shelby | 2023 State MO (South Shelby): The 2023 guard scored a game-high nine points in the championship game against Meadville. She is a solid all-around player with good 3-point range. She hit a couple of triples from the corner in which she displayed a quick release. She did a good job of moving to the open spots and making herself available.
Mallory Dennis (Meadville): The 5’5″ 2023 guard scored 12 points in the championship game victory over South Shelby. She scored on some tough takes to the basket and she also knocked down a Corner 3-pointer. She is a very good rebounder for her height as she just goes and gets the ball.
Savannah Reinke (Carrollton): The 5’6″ 2023 guard was physically one of the strongest players that I watched in the tournament. She plays much bigger than her actual height because of her toughness and willingness to outwork taller players. She also has a versatile skill set as she can score on power drives to the basket, plus she can handle the ball and hit the 3-pointer. She will also drop off a nice dime to an open cutter.
Avery Brumley Avery Brumley 5'7" | PG NE Cairo | 2025 State MO (NE Cairo): A 5’6″ 2025 guard who is a bundle of energy on the defensive end. She has good instincts as she will dart into the passing lanes for steals and deflections. She will also apply good pressure on the ball as she moves her feet well. She can also score on a nice runner in the lane.
Bella Ochoa (Carrollton): A 2023 guard who uses her speed to her advantage in the open court and when she wants to get downhill. She is fearless on the drives and she is not afraid of contact as she will get herself to the free throw line. She has a 20-point outing in the tournament.
Halle Fuemmeler (Glasgow): A 2026 guard who was impressive in the seventh-place game against Paris, where she scored a game-high 20 points to lead her team to the win. She has good height and length and nice fundamentals. She handles the ball well and she can shoot the 3-pointer with a quick release. It gets out of her hands in a hurry. She also defends well at the top of her team’s full court press.
Taylor Pierson (Carrollton): A 2026 guard who was very impressive in the consolation bracket game that I watched. She had a good feel for the game as she was always in the right spots to make things happen at both ends of the court. She was disruptive on defense with her length and activity. She scored on some nice takes to the basket. She used the ball fake well to set up defenders before making her move. She could also hit the open 3-pointer.
Sophia Crusha (Paris): A 5’3″ 2026 point guard who is not bothered by being the smallest player on the court. She will attack the basket on fearless drives and she will get her share of rebounds in traffic. She’s a coach’s daughter who plays with a lot of poise and a high basketball IQ.
