This time period is unique in history compared to other countries and is one of the most romanticized part of our history. It is a time when a person was both outlaw and lawman, hero and villain, and a mixture of myth and fact. While there were some famous individuals of the West- think John Wesley Hardin or Wild Bill Hickock, many of the legends that stay with us today are famous siblings. This is my second installment on siblings that are lighting up the court in Michigan. These are undoubtedly Annie Oakleys of the Midwest.
Lake Fenton
Lake Fenton is on an absolute tear this season, going undefeated and giving Frankenmuth and Goodrich their only loss this year. While LF is stocked with sisters Amaya and Kendyll Smith, who are phenomenal players, and a quartet of bigs, very few people pay attention to twins Ella Prevost and Anna Prevost Anna Prevost CG Lake Fenton | 2024 State MI . These two kids are lights out shooters that have range several feet past the line. They have the ability to drive past close outs and can find open teammates off the bounce. LF has the luxury of having two kids that must be guarded as soon as they step on the court.
Battle Creek Lakeview
I think we have all watched our team play great defense, tip the ball, but the ball miraculously falls into the hands of the other team for a bucket. Fifty-fifty balls are what wins or loses close games; good teams have kids that specialize in getting the 50-50 ball- and boy are these kids worth their weight in gold. Aisling Rankin Aisling Rankin 5'7" | SG Battle Creek Lakeview | 2023 State MI is such a kid; her defensive positioning is picture perfect and she is able to convert these opportunities into points for herself or her teammate. She fills every category in the stat sheet and just makes winning plays. Her younger sister Anya Rankin Anya Rankin 5'8" | PG Lakeview - Battle Creek | 2025 State MI is a born scorer that can store from all three levels. She will pull up for three in transition or drive the ball for layups or pullups. She dropped 25 on a strong Kalamazoo Central team. Both girls play strong defense.
Genesee High School
The 9-3 Wolves have been riding the strong effort of Ryleigh Zinn Ryleigh Zinn 5'11" | SF Genessee | 2023 State MI and Averie Zinn Averie Zinn 5'10" | PG Genesee | 2026 State MI all season. Averie is a star in the making. The 2026 product plays with way more ferocity than you would expect from the lithe frame, but discounting her is a mistake- the kid is has a killer instinct. She is everywhere on the floor, steals passes in every imaginable way, and will wrestle balls away from bigger kids. She has excellent vision on top of this. Ryleigh is the polished senior that recently surpassed the 1,000 point mark. Her 19 point, 13 rebound game last week was a bit of a “bad game”, as she has dropped 43 and 35 recently. She can score off the bounce and from deep.
