Here are the athletes that make up the team and are the reasons why this team seems to be unbeatable.
Here are the starting five on Tuesday for the Falcons.
Jamecia Huntley finds ways to get to the rim using shot fakes as players are closing out on her, and she explodes by them showing off her finish at the rim. On the other end of the court, she strips the ball from her opponents, and she gets up the court before her opponents can adjust. She’s very athletic getting up high for rebounds. She had some nice old fashioned three point plays in transition. She seemed to be unstoppable driving to the hoop scoring from all over the paint.
Highlights
Sarah Durham
Sarah Durham
Sarah Durham is an excellent trailer on fast breaks being ready for the pass to be kicked out to her if needed. She can definitely knock down a shot from around the perimeter. She sees the floor well being able to run the plays or slide out into the shooting guard position. On defense, she makes it difficult for the player she’s guarding to get the ball.
Lauren Arnold gets up high for rebounds, and she hustles up the court getting some fast break points. She’s disruptive on defense getting her hands in the way of passes and guards trying to dribble by her. She had a nice up and under move in transition getting her footwork right for the shot through contact. Her ball handling is fun to watch as she spun her way to some points on a fast break.
Demya Phifer
Demya Phifer
Demya Phifer did a nice job anticipating passes to grab the steal and score fast break points. She had a nice jump stop faking out her defender and scoring in transition. She drives hard to the hoop finding her open teammates underneath the basket opening up the court for her. She saw the floor well from the top of the key even finding teammates flashing to the block.
Tiara Thompson
Tiara Thompson
Tiara Thompson was tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best shooter effectively keeping the ball out of her hands. Even when her teammates thought they could get her the pass, she jumped in front grabbing the steal and found a teammate cutting up the court for a fast break. She has beautiful fakes and ball swings on her drives creating space for her shot. She followed shots grabbing rebounds, and pushed these defensive boards up the court for solo fast breaks. She had a nice power dribble off an offensive rebound to score two points.
Another aspect of this team that makes them so lethal is the fact that there’s no drop off when players come in off the bench.
Dede Cuthbertson
Dede Cuthbertson
Dede Cuthbertson was tough on defense constantly causing problems for her opponents. She did a nice job getting inside for rebounds on both ends of the court. She knew how to find the gaps on offense, and she showed off her midrange jumper.
Emma Clark
Emma Clark
Emma Clark was quick on the full court press finding ways to stay with her opponent and grab the steal before it got to her. She does a nice job relocating after her pass to slide into the gaps on defense where she can catch and shoot. She even showed her taps ability putting the ball back up off an offensive rebound without her feet hitting the ground.
Mya Edwards
Mya Edwards
Mya Edwards was scoring in the paint using her strength to slide inside for some points, and she did a nice job grabbing rebounds to end the possession of her opponents. She was tough on defense pushing the ball up the court off steals and battling inside for her points no matter who was in her way.
Makaylah Tenor
Makaylah Tenor
Makaylah Tenor showed her range shooting the ball on multiple occasions. She’s a tough defender using her lateral speed to keep her opponent in front of her and even knock the ball away from them inhibiting their offense. She will box out anyone around her, too, to make sure her team secures the rebound.
