This time period is unique in history compared to other countries and is one of the most romanticized part of our history. It is a time when a person was both outlaw and lawman, hero and villain, and a mixture of myth and fact. While there were some famous individuals of the West- think John Wesley Hardin or Wild Bill Hickock, many of the legends that stay with us today are famous duos like Wild Bill Hickock and Wild Bill Cody. While the two are normally more associated with a female, these two were fast friends and worked together several times.
Byron Center
Byron Center always seems to put out a pair or a trio of studs, and this year is seeing the status quo. McKenna Ferguson McKenna Ferguson 5'8" | SG Byron Center | 2023 State MI is a kid that is a threat to score 20+ a game, just ask Forest Hills Northern who gave up 33 or Greenville who surrendered 35. She has a sweet stroke and hits the corner three like a pro. Junior Lily Zeinstra Lily Zeinstra 6'0" | PG Byron Center | 2024 State MI is a pick pocketing menace that seems to put up 20+ points every night and flirts with double digit rebounds every night. Like her senior counterpart, Lily can hit the deep ball.
Hartland
Hartland lost about as much as a team could lose from last year’s team, including a coach with hundreds of career wins, but the Eagles brought back a 6’3 post in Sarah Rekowski Sarah Rekowski 6'3" | C Hartland | 2024 State MI and super skilled Liv Linden Liv Linden 5'7" | SG Hartland | 2023 State MI . Linden gets most of the hype for her deep three point game and strong drives, but Rekowski is a star in the making. The junior uses shifty spin moves to cap off drives and has the ability to play passing lanes; also, she is likely to send your shot five rows deep. Linden is just a born scorer that is relentless to the basket.
Lake City the Bisballes
A basketball fan came up to me and asked if I had heard of some Bisballe girl up at Lake City. Yes, I’ve hard of the cousins: Mackenzie Bisballe Mackenzie Bisballe PF Lake City | 2024 State MI and Alie Bisballe Alie Bisballe 6'2" | PF Lake City | 2024 State MI . I don’t know if the team starts with the 6’4 Alie who flirts with a triple double every night and must be close to leading the state in blocked shots or if it starts with smooth shooting Mackenzie, who is a three point shooting slasher that pulls down double digit rebounds. Regardless, the pair of juniors will not be missed by Highland Conference foes, as they terrorize both the basketball and volleyball court.
Escanaba
It’s too bad that more people don’t get a chance to see UP basketball, as there are some really solid squads above the bridge. While St. Ignace usually steals all of the glory, Escanaba has a legit chance to be considered as the best Yupper Team. They are led by Mari Bink Mari Bink 5'9" | PF Escanaba | 2023 State MI , a 5’8 senior. She is a 3 and D killer that is money in spot ups and terrorizes passing lanes. She has the ability to put the ball on the deck and block shots out of area. Her running mate is 5’10 Keira Maki Keira Maki 5'10" | SF Escanaba | 2024 State MI , who is a 2024 Swiss Army knife. She is putting up a double-double every night and can score at all three levels, off of cuts, and in the post. She grabs errant passes with ease. Both of the kids made Mick McCabe’s Preseason Top 75.
