Continue ReadingNorth Dakota High School Ball is finally underway after a few long blizzards postponing games. Let’s take a look at the WDA, current standings, some stats and where things are sitting about 1/3 the way through the season. Let’s get straight to it, time for tip-off!
Legacy: The Sabers are off to a HOT start full speed ahead. They are currently 7-0 and averaging 65.9PPG so far this season. Add that with shooting 47.3% from the Field, 2.3 Blocks Per Game, 13.3 Steals a Game, and 18.3 Assists a game….that explains their success. Adding to their confidence was a huge win against former State Champions Minot High, in a great battle knocking them off 73-72. From a statistical stand point, their nearly leading every stat in the WDA. From scoring outside, and with Brooklynn Felchle Brooklynn Felchle 6'3" | C Bismarck Legacy | 2025 State ND on the inside, their going to be a tough team to knock off this year. Their motor is running full speed, and they are “all in” to make a deep run this year come March. Their next match up is against Bismarck Century, which will no question be a fun one to watch on 1-12-23 @ 6:00PM.
Century: The Patriots are starting off 22-23′ no different then they have in years past. They sit 5-0 in Conference and 5-2 Overall with 2 losses at a preseason tourney in Minnesota against Wayzata, and St. Michael-Albertvielle. In the WDA they come in #2 averaging 76.6PPG, 38RPG, and shoot 44.8% from the field. Without a doubt Century is a tough team, with multiple players that can play inside/outside, and score from all levels they will be a tough team to handle. There is no doubt they want the State Title back in their School, and you can expect them to be playing their best ball come post-season. With this being Bergan Kinnebrew Bergan Kinnebrew 5'11" | CG Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND and Logan Nissleys final season, they want to make it a year to remember.
Minot: Minot is sitting at 7-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play, with 1 loss to the Legacy Sabers. They kicked off their season against West Fargo High in a epic game that will be remembered for quite some time. In that game alone they broke the School record with 19 3-pointers made in a single game. Following that they have put up multiple 100+ games this season against Watford City, Dickinson, and TMCHS. From a statistical stand point their shooting 58.6% from the field, 34% from 3-pointers, and 41.6 rebounds a game. One of the most impressive things I find about Minot is their roster filled with skilled players from Seniors to Freshman that can put up massive numbers any night. They have talent all across the board and will be a top level team for years to come.
Bismarck High: BHS is sitting 5-2 overall with 2 losses to Century and Minot. But don’t let that fool you, this team is as talented as they come. BHS is a fast paced team that defensively can pressure the ball extremely well, and can force turnovers all night long. They return multiple guards who can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court, and know how to knock um’ down. Leading that charge is Peyton Neumiller Peyton Neumiller 5'10" | SG Bismarck High | 2023 State ND with 16.4PPG and Jersey Berg Jersey Berg 5'11" | SF Bismarck | 2024 State ND 12.6PPG. The Demons are averaging 65.9PPG, 41.3RPG and shooting 45.6% from the field. Their a tough, gritty team that will pressure you all night. Do not count them out, their a team that can make some noise and knock off any team on any given night.
Jamestown: The Bluejays are 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the EDC. They started off the year with 2 losses to St.Mary and Bismarck High in hard fought battles. From there they found their stride and have went 5-1 with the most recent win over Mandan. As a team Jamestown is averaging 68.6PPG, 43.1 RPG, 17.6 APG and shooting 45% from the field, which is one of the top in the WDA. Jamestown is a team that can really shoot the ball well from inside and out, Ella Falk Ella Falk 5'10" | SG Jamestown | 2023 State ND is leading the way averaging 17.4PPG and Katie Falk Katie Falk 5'8" | SF Jamestown | 2023 State ND with 11.4PPG. The Bluejays are off to a good start, and with plenty more games to come, they have a lot to look forward too and could be a top contender in the WDA.
St.Mary: The Saints are currently 3-5 in WDA Play with Wins against Dickinson, Jamestown and Williston. The Saints losses have been good battles to some tough teams, but they have proven they can knock down shots and put up points. The Saints are averaging 56.9PPG, shooting 41.6% from the floor (#4 in WDA), and picking up 37RPG. St.Mary’s has a little of everything on the floor as well, size..shooters and speed. With players like Lexi Gerving Lexi Gerving 5'10" | SF St. Mary's | 2024 State ND 12.9PPG, Lida Spies 11.4PPG, and Mykie Messer 11.3PPG there is no question they have players who can score on all levels of the floor. They have the talent, skill and hunger to shake up the standings in the WDA!
Dickinson: Dickinson currently sits 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the WDA with wins against TMCHS, Williston and Watford City. As a team they are averaging 58PPG, 41.7RPG, and shooting 37.9% from the field. Dickinson is led by Emily Ash Emily Ash 5'6" | PG Dickinson | 2023 State ND 18.9PPG, and Caton Pearcy Caton Pearcy 5'10" | SF Dickinson | 2023 State ND 12.3PPG in the scoring column. Dickinson has had some close/tough battles so far, and isn’t far away from a few more wins under the belt. Turnovers seem to be a little hiccup in their game, but with plenty more games ahead we can expect a few more W’s to their name.
Mandan: The Braves are 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the WDA. Starting off the season they knocked off #5 West Fargo Sheyenne 66-58, and the last win being against Holy Family Catholic (Minnesota). Since then they have struggled to get back on track, and be a top contender in the WDA. As a team they are averaging 51.8PPG, 40RPG, shooting 34% from the field and 24.8% from behind the arch. Hopefully soon enough the Braves can make a few adjustments and get back on track, and find their pace. There is no question the level of talent they have is there, but I think it’s fair to say….a big piece to the puzzle is waiting to be put back in place.
TMCHS: The Bravettes are 1-5 in WDA play with a win against Watford City. The Bravettes are led by All-Stater Amya Gourneau Amya Gourneau 5'7" | PG Turtle Mountain | 2023 State ND with 13.4PPG and new transfer Tiyahna Trottier Tiyahna Trottier 6'0" | PF Turtle Mountain Community | 2023 ND 17.0PPG. TMCHS is averaging 58.2PPG, 25.9% from behind the arch and leading the WDA in blocks with 4.2BPG. With an offense and players who can shoot outside, and adding Trottier to the mix on the inside, they very well could be a team that surprises a few teams in the WDA. The season is still young, and plenty of games to come.
Watford City: The Wolves are 1-5 and 0-4 in the WDA, looking to get on track and and pick up some steam for a good season. They are averaging 48.0PPG, 30.3RPG and shooting 39.4% from the field.
