Continue ReadingWe’ve watched a ton of players over the course of this winter and there were plenty of candidates to be added to the Class of 2025 rankings for the first time. Since our self-imposed limit is 25 newcomers per update, however, there were a lot of worthy prospects who didn’t make the cut this time around. They’ll no doubt be added in June. For now, we bring you the 25 who did make it. Let’s meet the Top 10.
THE TOP 5 NEWCOMERS
#88 – Makenzie Carrier Makenzie Carrier 5'6" | PG Kasson-Mantorville | 2025 State MN – guard, Kasson-Mantorville
Carrier was knocking at the door when we updated our prospect pecking order last fall so it’s not a surprise that a) she made the cut and b) is the top-rated newcomer on our list. The 5’6 combo guard has had a very good year for the KoMets. She is being relied upon to deliver the goods for coach Ryan Haraldson on a nightly basis. On offense, she has shown the ability to get downhill and score at the basket time and time again. She also leads her team in three-pointers and is a consistent mid-range shooter, as well. It is on the defensive side of the equation, however, where Carrier provides maximum value. She plays bigger than her size and uses her speed, quickness and basketball intelligence to tie up ball handlers of all descriptions.
#93 – Sophia Peer Sophia Peer 6'0" | SF Mahtomedi | 2025 State MN – forward, Mahtomedi
Sophia did some nice work last summer, but this winter she has emerged as a player with top-end potential. At 6 feet tall she obviously has the kind of height and length college recruiters are always searching for, but it is her speed that enables Sophia to be a true difference-maker. Defensively Peer is an excellent rim protector and shot disrupter who has the wingspan and verticality to disrupt shots at will. On offense, her skillset has evolved significantly since the AAU season. Although she isn’t relied upon to score for the Zephyrs – they’ve got plenty of firepower up front to take care of that task – she’s certainly capable of doing so. Sophia enters the rankings in the Top 100. If her game continues to grow she will no doubt rise a lot higher before it’s all said and done.
#98 – Lauren Schloe Lauren Schloe 6'3" | PF Sauk Rapids | 2025 State MN – forward, Sauk Rapids-Rice
6-foot 3-inch bigs are a rare commodity. No matter how athletic they are, no matter how large their body or long their arms, these kinds of prospects are going to get every opportunity to prove what they can do and earn a spot on a college roster. If they show real potential against quality opponents when playing at a high level for the first time, well that’s a recipe for long-term success. That’s what Lauren did last summer when she was a late addition to the powerhouse Minnesota Stars Borowicz roster. She was definitely raw and inexperienced. The pace of play and intensity of competition on the Adidas circuit was a far cry from what she was accustomed to. But Schloe adjusted, grew her game in a significant way, and showed the potential to cash in on her God-given ability. This summer the phone is going to ring.
#106 – Maddy Freking Maddy Freking 5'10" | PF Anoka | 2025 State MN – forward, Anoka
Maddy is no stranger to the limelight having earned national notoriety four years ago when she was a pitcher of some repute in the Little League World Series. That takes some athleticism and now her natural gifts are now being put to good use on the basketball court. Freking has sprouted up to at least 5’10, perhaps 5’11. She’s got a big frame, plenty of strength and an impressive skillset for a player who spends her summers on the diamond as opposed to in the gym. Maddy has had a breakthrough high school season. She is a consistent finisher and leads Anoka in scoring at over 16 points per game. She’s topped the 20-point mark eight times including a 32-point outburst against Spring Lake Park that we watched live. Freking is a strong rebounder, isn’t afraid to get physical, and has great instincts. Add it all up and you have an excellent college basketball prospect if that’s the direction she decides to go. Stay tuned.
#107 – Mara Holle Mara Holle 5'11" | SF Blaine | 2025 State MN – forward, Blaine
When we watched Mara last summer it was obvious that she was a player with possibilities. This winter that potential has morphed into productivity as she has emerged as a player to be reckoned with in high school basketball. Pushing 6 feet tall, Holle has height and length and a wingspan that does not stop. That enables her to be a highly effective defender who can pester opponents into poor decisions and unanticipated turnovers. Offensively Holle is much improved. She’s in the top three among Bengals scorers, and her productivity has increased as the season has progressed. Mara is also an excellent shooter. We love her versatility as she can play the 2, 3 or 4 spot and has demonstrated that she can defend both guards and front-court players. All of that has earned Holle a spot in the rankings. Now we’ll see how high she can go.
THE NEXT 5
#108 – Abby John Abby John 5'9" | CG Barnesville | 2025 State MN – guard, Barnesville
The 5’9 guard is a great ball handler with speed, quickness and ability to get downhill in transition. John missed last season with a torn ACL but she has roared back this winter and proven that she can be a game-changer. Defensively she is tenacious and aggressive. With a strong work ethic and desire to be great, Abby has the potential to be a top 50-75 prospect with a strong AAU season.
#113 – Katherine Boulanger Katherine Boulanger 5'11" | SF New Prague | 2025 State MN – forward, New Prague
We told you about Boulanger last week after our visit to Benilde-St. Margaret’s where she was tasked with going up against Michigan commit Olivia Olson Olivia Olson 6'1" | CG Benilde-SM | 2024 State MN . For a prospect who hasn’t played AAU, and didn’t play varsity until this season, she was/is remarkably effective. The 6-footer is long and mobile and has a really nice feel for where to be on the floor and when to be there. Let’s hope basketball becomes her priority.
#116 – Alyssa Prophet Alyssa Prophet 5'6" | CG Mesabi East | 2025 State MN – guard, Mesabi East
Giants forward Marta Forsline Marta Forsline 6'2" | PF Mesabi East | 2026 State MN has had an outstanding high school season. She’s an excellent prospect to be sure but it is the emergence of Prophet that has helped her to shine so brightly. The crafty point guard has burst onto the scene this winter. She is shooting at a very high percentage, putting up big numbers, and racking up assists. She has great court vision and terrific handles. Prophet will play for Starks Elite this spring.
#119 – Chloe Netzinger Chloe Netzinger 5'7" | SG Rogers | 2025 State MN – guard, Rogers
Rogers is a veteran-heavy squad led by UC-Davis commit Clara Glad Clara Glad 6'0" | SF Rogers | 2023 State MN and MSU-Moorhead signee Katelyn Maciej Katelyn Maciej 6'2" | PF Rogers | 2023 State MN . We expected them to have a great year, but it is Netzinger’s emergence that has caught our attention. Last summer with the Metro Stars we saw Chloe’s potential. Now we’re watching her evolution. With length, athleticism, tenacity and an exceptional work ethic, Chloe is building the base on which to blossom.
#124 – Reilly Kurth Reilly Kurth 6'2" | PF Wayzata | 2025 State MN – forward, Wayzata
The Trojans are deep, deep, deep and have a roster that includes plenty of size up front. When the likes of Jessica Oberlander Jessica Oberlander 6'3" | PF Wayzata | 2023 State MN and Shannon Fornshell Shannon Fornshell 6'1" | SF Wayzata | 2023 State MN move on at the conclusion of the high school season, that’s going to open the door for the 6’2 Kurth. She is highly intelligent on the floor, has range out to a dozen feet or so, passes the ball very well and has nice footwork. When she gains experience and gets more aggressive look out.
