The MIAA basketball season is in the final stretch of the regular season. Here we look at 5 players in the MIAA who have been a high impact player for their team. [player_tooltip player_id='266700' first='Maddy' last='Genser'], Newton South Class 2023, Position PG, Maddy recently scored her 1000th career point for the Lions. This is even more impressive, with a shortened season due to COVID, and being injured for a good portion of her junior season. Maddy is a dominate point guard, who can control the game. She puts up big numbers night in and out. She is a true level scorer, a floor general, and also an excellent defender, who forces a bunch of steals. Some notable stat lines she had this season are 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assist against Bedford, 22 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals against Acton Boxborough. Maddy is also an all State soccer player. She has the game of a division 1 player, and is committed to Colby college to play soccer and basketball. [player_tooltip player_id='297236' first='Emily' last='Sawyer'], Class 2023, High School King Philip, Position C, Emily has been one of the most dominate post players in the state this season. She is a 6-4 center with a good touch around the rim. She manages to put up big numbers night in and out, even while seeing double and triple teams. She is also a good passer out of the post, and does a good job finding her teammates when she is doubled. She is a paint protector on defense, and makes it tough for anyone driving in the lane. Most team just don't have the size to match up with her, and she is more than just tall. Some of her notable stat lines this season are Against Mansfield 28 points and 19 rebounds, and against North Attleborough 21 points and 14 rebounds. [player_tooltip player_id='267178' first='Ashlee' last='Talbot'], Dracut, Position PG, Class 2023, Ashley is having another big season for Dracut. She has helped lead the team to back to back MVC league titles. She is a dominate point guard, who is a true 3 level scorer. She can get to the basket with ease, and can finish really well, even over bigger defenders. She is also a very good shooter from the outside, and has had games this season with 6 three pointers made. She is a really hard worker, who is always working on her craft. She is able to change speeds, and control the pace of the game. She is also a good facilitator, and sees the floor well. She rebounds the ball very well for a guard, and also is a very good defender. She has a number of notable stat lines this season, and a few of them are 27 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists against Haverhill, and against Chelmsford she had 5 three pointers, with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Her game will translate well to the college level. [player_tooltip player_id='264333' first='Cecilia' last='Kay'] Bishop Fenwick, Class 2024, Position G/F Cecilia is a 6-2 versatile player. She can play from the inside and out. She recently scored her 1000th career point. With her size, her ability to play out on the perimeter makes for a lot of miss matches. She can be a slasher from the wing, and also shoot from the outside. She can also finish well at the rim and is aggressive on the glass. She is a versatile defender that can guard multiple positions. Some notable stat lines from this season are 22 points and 10 rebounds against ST Mary's, and 20 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks against Bishop Stang. Lots of upside with her game. [player_tooltip player_id='184009' first='Selina' last='Monestime'], Framingham, Class 2023, Position G Selina is a high energy, athletic versatile guard. She is 5'11 and can run the point for the team. She is very aggressive and physical. She is a strong finisher going to the rim, and can finish well through contact. She can play from the inside and out and she crashes the boards very aggressively. Defensively she is a really good shot blocker, and can guard multiple positions. She is a tough player to match up with. Some Notable stat lines from the season are 14 points and 15 rebounds against Brookline, and 17 points 11 rebounds against Lincoln Sudbury. Her game will translate well to the division 1 college level.
