Thornton and her Bryan squad lost a tough one to Waco Midway and probably have them finishing in 3rd place. I caught up with several players I hadn’t seen, a couple I’ve written about when they played for Lady Thunder, yet I was overly impressed with some of the freshmen I knew nothing about so one more time, place yourselves in a position to be seen by a REAL EVALUATOR and here are the standouts
Bryan
Avery Archer-5’8 G [2026]
Archer is poised under pressure and she’s heady as she comprehends the simple things that will be big over her high school career. She knocked down the midrange as well as the long-range and showed she could “catch and shoot”. She also hit the boards on both ends
Christionna Ellis-5’9 G/F [2025]
Ellis is one of those Lady Thunder standouts I caught early and saw her potential. She rebounded strongly on both ends of the court, powered her way to the rim, and got to the line yet her playing the passing lane as well as defense also stood out
Zamia Turner-5’5 CG [2025]
Turner is the other player from the Lady Thunder I saw a few years ago and her SWB, speed with the ball, was a definite attraction. She has a nice first step to get to the basket and in the open court, just get back yet her athleticism, on both ends is nice
Taylor Montgomery-G [2024]
Montgomery was also on that AGGIELAND team and she too was a 5th grader. Her shooting the midrange and handling the ball under pressure stood out and she’s added even more because her pull-up jumper in transition was nice, she scored off the dribble and saw the floor. On top of all that, she played the passing lane
Taler Thornton Taler Thornton 5'9" | CG Bryan | 2024 State TX -5’8 SG [2024]
Thornton has been a THORN in the side of many defenders over the years, she may be one of the most underrated players in Texas but her ability to take over games offensively, mid to long, off the dribble, is something to see but more importantly, she finds ways to put the ball into the basket
Waco Midway
Rihyana Kinsey-5’9 SF [2026]
Kinsey sold me early by not only showing the pull-up jumper but diving on the floor for loose balls which is #THROWBACK. She simply BATTLES for everything, you can’t teach that, nor that spin move down the stretch that was HUGE. She also scores off the dribble and defends
Lyric Broussard Lyric Broussard 5'7" | SG Midway | 2025 TX -SF [2025]
Broussard falls into that profile I love to evaluate, long and athletic because it will always be the base. She scored off the dribble and showed some nice moves around the basket yet she also rebounded on both ends, scored on putbacks, and did a good job defensively
Brooke Jones-5’6 SG/SF [2023]
Jones dropped from deep, well at least 4 she knocked them down to both start the momentum for her team and stop the momentum from Bryan. She understands how to create her shot, under pressure and what was equally impressive was her ability to “catch and shoot”
Kamil Ajose [2026]
Ajose dropped multiple 3-pointers, which is always good yet her quick hands on the defensive end had me wishing I could rewind. She also showed she could handle the ball the length of the court after the steal or rebound, Nice court vision and attacked the basket strongly
