Continue ReadingIn perhaps the most exciting boys or girls basketball game all season long, Benson Tech squeaked out a victory at the final buzzer over the Jefferson Demos 62-61 – denying the Demos a huge victory despite Jefferson coming back with vengeance in the second half. With 7.7 seconds left and a loud Jefferson faithful backing their players in a packed Jefferson gym, it was Olivia Hinck who came the full length of the court to score her only 2 points of the game – the most important figures of the game to straight up will her team to victory. In an up hauling celebration – players, coaches, fans stormed the court after an exhilarating victory between the two PIL rivals. An unbelievable game between two excellent ball clubs, we were treated to a championship level match in early February – perhaps a foresight of things to come in what will be an exciting ensemble of teams at Chiles Center.
Onna Brown 2023 5’10” SG Benson HS – the true swiss army knife for Benson, as she fills out a wide variety of roles for the Techsters. Rugged rebounder, suave scorer, and just brings a toughness that is hard to match. Had a great 11 point, 3 rebound, 2 steal performance where she had a huge three down the stretch to re-invigorate her squad.
Mahogany Chandler-Roberts 2024 6’2″ C Benson HS – Mahogany was a machine down-low as she went to work effortlessly, snatching rebounds at will, moving with mobility yet with the strength of a bull. Bullied her way into a magnificent 18 point, 11 rebound, 4 assist performance – the most impactful player on the floor all game long.
Abrianna Lawrence 2025 5’8″ PG Jefferson HS – the point general had some huge shots down the stretch, including two back to back mid-range shots, one coming off a key steal. Ice was truly in her veins as she captivated and inspired her team to a comeback, scoring 18 points along the way.
Leila Nunez 2025 6’1″ PF Jefferson – the hybrid forward had one of the best performances of her high school career as she had 17 points, scoring them in a wide variety of ways – shooting particularly well from outside the paint. She had two key blocks on back to back possessions to keep her team in it.
Chauncey Andersen 2025 6’0″ SF Jefferson HS – grit is certainly a word to describe Chauncey as she was a determined force of nature throughout the course of the game, never letting up despite the score. She scored 15 points as she had a key and-one in the second half to spark her Demos.
