District Tournament play here in Kentucky has come to an end 64 districts were represented and have crowned a champion. In this article I want to recap and highlight players who performed well for their team throughout the tournament.

Anaysia Bagwell Anaysia Bagwell 5'7" | CG Christian County | 2026 State KY
After a heartbreaking loss to Hopskinville last year in the district championship game. Christian County was on a mission to redeem themselves this season. In a rematch against Hopkinsville Thursday night they claimed they 8th district title and did so in a blowout victory 71-26. Led by their star freshman point guard Anaysia Bagwell Anaysia Bagwell 5'7" | CG Christian County | 2026 State KY who went off for 25 points leaving no doubt that her team would win the game an cut the net. She finished the regular season averaging 18.2 per game leading the team in scoring. Bagwell has been starting for the Lady Colonels since the 7th grade. She has a lot of big game experience and displays the poise of an upperclassman on the court. She was selected all-tournament team and a freshman that should have been in my “Kentucky’s Top 10 Freshmen Watch List”. (Featured Image Above)
Highlights
The Lady Cardinals made an early exit in the 42nd district tourney with a 48-69 loss to Frederick Douglass. The sharpshooting Maleyiah Moore gave it all she had putting up 20+ points in the two games played. On game one against Sayre she had 24 points going 6/11 from three along with 7 rebounds and 5 assist. In the loss to Douglass she had 20 points hitting 6 threes and grabbed 5 rebounds. The season is over for Scott County but their future looks bright as they have a lot of key players returning.

The Lady Cats reached 20 wins this season for the second time in school history and the first time since 1980. This record breaking bunch just won the 38th district with a 67-48 victory over Nicholas County. Freshman guard Lilly Paige performed very well in both games for Pendleton County. In the first game against Robertson County she was on fire and led the way with 17 points knocking down 5 three pointers making her an easy All-Tournament selection.

Somerset suffered a tough loss to Pulaski County 49-57 in the 47th district championship game. In the first game of the tournament the 8th grade guard Jaelyn Dye played her best game all-season dropping a game-high 31 points with 17 coming in the 3rd quarter. Her impressive performance helped the Lady Jumpers beat Rockcastle County 58-50. Somerset looks to rebound in the 12th region tourney.
Simon Kenton came up just short against Grant County losing 45-47 in a hard fought game. Freshman forward Haylie Webb Haylie Webb 5'11" | SF Simon Kenton | 2026 State KY brought her “A” game and played well in both tournament games. Against Walton-Verona she had 12 points and grabbed several rebounds. She followed that performance with a 10 point outing in the championship game in the loss to Grant County. The Lady Pioneers head to Gallatin County to face Owen County tomorrow in the 8th region tourney.
Dixie Heights won their ninth straight 34th District Championship with over St. Henry 68-41. The senior leader Ella Steczynski Ella Steczynski 5'8" | SG Dixie Heights | 2023 State KY led the way with 16 points impacting the game in a variety of ways. She also scored her 1,000th point in the first round game against Ludlow. Steczynski was named an all-tournament team MVP with her performance. The Colonels will face Holy Cross (Covington) in the opening round of the 9th region tournament.
