With that being said, here are the Thursday matchups
KATY VS JERSEY VILLAGE– 7 PM Bridgeland HS
To be honest with you, I haven’t seen Katy all season but I know Lyric Barr-6’0 PF [2023] is one of their main factors. I mentioned her college-ready frame in one article I wrote about her yet her progression over the years has been key as she stands at the magic number, for those who don’t pay attention, that is 6’0, and her scoring around the basket including fishing strongly after contact. In an article I wrote almost 3 seasons ago, I said her “upside was scary” and when I say something it usually happens because I am a REAL EVALUATOR
I know absolutely NOTHING about Jersey Village, well I actually know a lot about their history because they were one of the teams you had to go through back in the day and they had one of the top point guards ever, Nina Norman, who also starred at Texas and was on the VERY FIRST McDonald’s All American team for girls back in 2002. If someone tells you about someone being on an MDAA team before that, they’re misleading you or flat-out lying, well both. I also know their district has 4 teams in the Sweet 16
DEER PARK VS SHADOW CREEK 6 PM Sam Rayburn HS
Deer Park’s district was almost swept, they edged Humble 33-30 where THE GLUE, Macie Whitfield probably created some problems down the stretch, This game won’t be close, not just because Shadow Creek has my initials but Kameryn Phillips Kameryn Phillips 5'8" | CG Shadow Creek | 2023 State TX has the ability to take over a game, from either end. She scores off the dribble, acrobatically, and after contact, and can knock down the long ball, as well as the midrange. Her “on the ball” defense is smothering, and she plays the passing lane
SUMMER CREEK VS HASTINGS 7:30 PM Delmar Fieldhouse
If you want more bang for your buck, you can catch Fulshear vs Friendswood at 6 PM and if I was going to watch any games live, well I LOVE DOUBLEHEADERS. I also love LIVESTREAM, when it’s working because I can get my WRAPAROUND coverage and see more than a doubleheader
Summer Creek has a star-studded cast, I picked them and Pearland as the teams to beat yet Beaumont Westbrook is ready to throw everything for a loop having beaten Summer Creek in district play but first things first. Jorynn Ross Jorynn Ross 6'2" | PF John Cooper | 2023 State TX will be heading to Pepperdine and has her eyes on returning to the state Final 4, it can be done. Hastings is led by Melinda Winston Melinda Winston 6'0" | PF Alief Hastings | 2024 State TX who has elevated her game and is scoring however she wants too
With all of that being said, Katy, Shadow Creek, and Summer Creek will PROBABLY advance yet in a one-game playoff…
