The Martensdale-St. Mary’s junior shot the ball well in the Blue Devils’ opening win against Bedford. The junior converted six of the nine 3-point field goals she attempted in the opening round of the postseason. As the No.2 seed in region 7 of 1A, the Blue Devils will have to go through a tough St. Albert team if that matchup were to come about in the region final, but if it were, Shannon would have a significant role to play. The wing’s ability to space the floor is valuable in small school basketball, even more so than in 5A school basketball.
Emily TerWee
The West Lyon Wildcats have been playing well going into the postseason, and in their win over MOC-Floyd Valley, that trend kept up. TerWee was the standout of the game with 26 points in the victory and made 12 of her 19 field goal attempts while adding nine rebounds and five assists. TerWee’s ability to score and contribute in multiple ways will help the Wildcats over the next week and hopefully longer for West Lyon.
Emma Donovan
As a senior at Walhert Catholic, Donovan has all the trust in this run for the Golden Eagles. She had an excellent first game in the postseason for the Golden Eagles, racking up 20 points and 11 rebounds in an opening-round victory over Crestwood. I’ll be interested to see how Donovan and the Golden Eagles play in region 7 of Class 3A. There are some solid teams left in there, and it’d be a surprise if they came out of it, but keep an eye on them.
Brecklyn Schilling
The North Mahaska sophomore had a solid game in the Warhawks opening round win over Tri-County. Schilling scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out three assists in the win. The No. 2-seeded Warhawks seem to be on a collision course. If that were to happen, Schilling would have a significant role in that matchup. Her ability to score off the dribble is crucial in a one-off setting, and she’s comfortable scoring in a pinch. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Warhawks made it to the Wells Fargo Center.
