For many athletes this time of year is when everyone really kicks it into gear as is playing their absolute best at a chance to make it into the State Tourney. Currently tourney play is underway in Class “B”, and will be moving onto the Regional Tournaments. Following that the WDA/EDC will be kicking off their tournaments followed up by the Class “A” State tournament in Fargo.
There is tons of athletes that have had impressive seasons so far with plenty more games to go, a lot of names we have touched on throughout the season, but let’s take a look around the State and hit on a few players that have really stepped up this year, and been a very impactful player to their respected teams. Well….let’s get down to it!
Brooke Eggermont Brooke Eggermont 6'0" | PF Valley City | 2023 State ND : Valley City 6′ F 2023- I really like the complete package you get with Eggermont. When it comes down to a hard working, tough player that comes to work game after game it defines her as a player. This year Eggermont has been a key player for Valley City inside/outside and on both sides of the floor. At 6′ she has good size to her, but also has a strong frame that she knows how to use to muscle her way through a defender in the paint for an easy 2pt put back. This year she she is averaging 15.2PPG up from 13 last year, and is accounting for 6.5RPG as well. She has improved quite a bit from last year, and you can tell she has been putting in the work on the floor all around. The one thing that stands out besides her grit, is her ability to put the ball off the glass in the paint fluidly either left handed, or right handed, but also has proven she can hit from 17-20′ as well. She’s a solid player and has been showing her talents in the EDC this year.
Mataeya Mathern Mataeya Mathern 6'0" | SG Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier | 2024 State ND : Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 5/10 F 2024- Mathern is without a doubt one of the top players in the class of 2024 for many reasons, the one thing that you can say about her….she is a dominate player on the floor! The returning All-District 5 player has been nothing short of impressive this year, last year alone she averaged 17PPG, 9RPG and tallied up 119 steals alone, and she has not held back this year either. Offensively she is a talented shooter from just about anywhere on the floor inside or outside, and with her good size, she can rip down the boards as well. She’s a very fluid player that just makes her work on the floor look effortless, and very smooth. Mathern has all the skills and abilities to play at the next level, hopefully we can see her and the Rebels finish their year strong with a deep run in Class B. Mathern this year picked up another All-District 5 Award and hit a milestone of 1000 points, the best part tho…she still has another year for us to watch her talents on the floor!
Rylee Routledge Rylee Routledge 5'8" | SG South Prairie | 2027 ND : South Prairie/Max 5’5 G 2027- Another dominate player coming out of the Minot area is 8th Grader Rylee Routledge Rylee Routledge 5'8" | SG South Prairie | 2027 ND from South Prairie. At the beginning of the season she was listed as a “Top-Prospect” and you can believe she has not let that down. This year she came out swinging averaging 13PPG, 2.5 SPG and is shooting an impressive 43% from behind the 3-Point line. At 5’5 she isn’t the biggest on the court, but she leave a huge impact to say the least. It’s impressive for any 8th Graders to come in and be a impactful player, but the energy she brings to the floor is off the level. She handles the ball like a seasoned player, has shown her shooting abilities but can also flat out FLY down the court. Her potential is off the charts, and she will be another high caliber player we will be hearing about for quite some time. Her future is very bright to say the least.
Kimimila McAllister: Mandan 5’7 G 2026- Another young promising player coming into the Mandan program is 5’7 G McAllister. Over the season she has seen increased playing time and has really stepped it up and proven she has all the abilities to be a key player for the Braves, not only now…but in the future as well. McAllister is a shifty, quick footed guard who is sticky defensively, but offensively poses a major threat especially from the mid/long range area. This year alone she is averaging 5.3PPG, shooting 35% and is responsible for 16 3’s with a game high of 22pts vs Dickinson. McAllister has a TON of upside to her game and has already shown the caliber of player she is, what is exciting is the player she will become. With her abilities offensively and defensively there is no question she will have an exciting future ahead of her, and be another young promising athlete in the WDA/Mandan. What she brings to the floor is exciting, and she is another name we will be hearing plenty about. She is easily a top 15 player in the class of 2026, and her experience she’s getting on the floor as a Freshman will be huge for her next year.
