I believe that this has a lot to do with Sadie and her ability to see the floor. On Tuesday, February 14, Sanchez recorded a double-double (19 points, 12 assists). That means she had her hand in at least 43 of the 81 points scored for Randall. She will no doubt make a splash in the Regional Quarterfinal round.
Sanchez and the Lady Raiders will face El Paso Riverside Tuesday, February 21.
Other notable performers:
Lubbock Monterey
Aaliyah Chavez Aaliyah Chavez 5'9" | PG Monterey | 2025 State TX 5’9 G [2025]
Chavez is one of, if not the best guard, to come out of Lubbock and she is only a sophomore. After having a stellar regular season and setting Lubbock Monterey’s scoring record in only two years, Chavez is on the verge of leading her team to the Regional Tournament. In Monterey’s game against Burges, Chavez scored 34 points on 12-18 shooting. She creates her own shots with ease and when she is not open, she makes the perfect pass to her teammates. The Lubbock Monterey Plainsmen will take on Amarillo High on Tuesday, February 21 in the biggest matchup of the year.
Jaelyn Morrison 5’10 SF [2023]
Morrison had a great game in the Area matchup. She scored 18 points on 7-19 shooting. With her playing like she did on Friday, Monterey becomes that much more dangerous. She adds such an exclamation point to the already amazing offense for Monterey. They will be hard to beat if she can continue to play like that!
Randall
Ashley Norman 5’9 G [2023]
Norman is a steady guard who has the length to be a problem on defense. Norman scored a game-high of 15 points in Randall’s win against El Paso Irvin. She can knock down the 3-pointer, but she can also get to the basket. She is not afraid of big moments and is ready to play her hardest every time she steps on the floor. Her grit and determination will help the Lady Raiders in the Regional Quarterfinals.
Amarillo High
McKenzie Smith McKenzie Smith 5'11" | SF Amarillo | 2023 State TX 5’11 G [2023]
In Amarillo’s win against El Paso Andress, Smith racked in a game-high of 28 points. She made three 3-pointers in the second quarter to boost Amarillo over Andress (77-42). Her length makes her hard to guard and her ability to knock down shots from anywhere on the court makes her a matchup problem. She is also able to draw the foul and make her free-throws. She is the X-factor for Amarillo High and will be an asset in their Regional Quarterfinal matchup against Lubbock Monterey.
Lubbock Cooper
Majik Esquivel 5’8 G [2024]
In Cooper’s matchup against El Paso Chapin, Esquivel exploded for 31 points. She made seven 3-pointers. If she is given any space, she will knock it down. This makes her such a problem for opponents. She is quick on both ends of the floor, which boosts her team to have a high tempo. Her shot is effortless and she can shoot it from DEEP. You have to pick her up at half-court. She and the Lady Pirates take on Amarillo Tascosa in the Regional Quarterfinal on Tuesday, February 21.
