The Salem Lady Greyhounds captured their first 3-A crown by defeating the Lamar Lady Warriors 56-36 at the Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs last Saturday evening. Salem moved up from Class 2-A the previous year as the new kids on the block and the move proved successful. Below is a list of standout performers from this 2023 state championship game;

Salem High School

[player_tooltip player_id='442402' first='Chelsea' last='Hamilton'], PG-Hamilton, pictured in forecourt above, had 20 points to lead all scorers in the championship game. She also hit 12 of her 13 free throws. Her leadership was apparent from the start as it has been all year for the Lady greyhounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='306144' first='Marleigh' last='Sellars'], SG-Sellars, pictured with the ball, knocked down four 3-pointers that landed her the MVP award for the tournament. Effective both inside and outside, she not only fills the stat sheet, but also does the little things like drawing the double team, setting screens for her teammates, and will go to the floor for loose balls. Good all-around player.

Madeline Keen, 5'7' SG-A good solid rebounder, Keen is the mirror image of Sellars. That makes the Lady Greyhounds so hard to guard. Just a junior, she'll have one more year to make another positive impact in the Class 3-A post-season.

Lamar High School

[player_tooltip player_id='442128' first='Karley' last='Williams'], SG-Williams led her team in scoring and rebounding this year. She logged 11 points and 8 rebounds in the championship game. Karley has excellent footwork in the paint but can also hit the three when the opportunity arises. Overall, she had a great year and career for the Lady Warriors.

Morgan Cochran, SG-Cochran, a 5'5" senior is another one of those players that just gets it done. Along with Williams, she took on additional work when teammates went down due to injury. Morgan had a tough championship game, but her excellent play throughout the season helped get the Lady Warriors to the finals.

[player_tooltip player_id='1049429' first='Madison' last='Davidson'], Post-A 5'10" sophomore, Madison got plenty of experience in the paint this season. She finished with 11 rebounds in the championship game. Her increased minutes, especially in the second half of the season will serve her and the Lady Warriors well next year.

Both of these teams had excellent seasons. Salem High School, with substantial junior leadership, and Lamar High School with minimal injuries and a full roster, will definitely go deep again in the postseason next year.

Bobby Brown
