With the 2022-2023 IHSAA girls’ basketball season in the rearview mirror, and with the all-state awards for each classification having been handed out, I wanted to finish highlighting several ladies from different areas of the state. Below is a look at a handful of ladies who stood out during the 2022-2023 season in Eastern Indiana.

, 2023, 5-11 W, Winchester Community H.S.
– Caitlyn put together an outstanding career for the Golden Falcons, but because she wasn’t heavily involved in grassroots basketball, not many people outside of East Central Indiana had the opportunity to see her play. She is long, fluidly athletic, and versatile. She can play a point forward role, she can score it at all three levels, and she can defend multiple positions. She was a 23.1 ppg scorer this Winter.

, 2023, 6-0 F, East Central H.S.
– Josie is another highly skilled, versatile prospect. She has a fairly strong frame, she’s a well-rounded athlete, and she plays with a tremendous motor. She grew up as more of a primary ball-handler, and she carried over a lot of that skill to high school, allowing her to become a mismatch problem as an inside-out face-up forward. Josie averaged 20.3 ppg this year, and she will play at Wofford College.
Emma Hart

New Castle | 2024

, 2024, 5-2 PG, New Castle H.S.
– The Lady Trojans had a tough 2022-2023 season, but Emma was a highlight every night for them. Finally healthy, she was dynamic off the bounce, created offense for herself and teammates, and showed the feistiness and leadership you want out of your lead guard. Despite being smaller, she understands her limitations and rarely gets herself stuck in tough spots. She scored 17.7 ppg this year.
Brianna Smith, 2024, 5-9 W, Randolph Southern H.S.
– Brianna stepped up and had a really nice Junior year for Randolph Southern. She showed the ability to score the ball at all three levels, including knocking down 39 3-pointers at a 35% rate. She averaged 14.7 ppg, 4.9 rpg, and 3.6 apg this Winter, but I’d look for her to be even more involved next year, especially helping to handle the basketball, as their point guard graduates this spring.
Madison Sonsini

, 2025, 5-11 W, Richmond H.S.
– When I’ve talked about Madison in the past, I’ve made mention that as she continues getting stronger, her game should continue to take off. Well, she’s already starting to see those rewards. This Winter she averaged 14.4 ppg and 4.8 rpg, up from the 8.0 ppg and 2.2 rpg of a year ago. She has also grown and is nearing 6-feet, if not there already. And her best days are still well in front of her.

, 2025, 6-1 F, Greensburg H.S.
– Leah is somewhat of a known commodity throughout the state and in several recruiting circles, but she continues to improve her skillset. This year, she showed a much more consistent jump-shot from the perimeter, an improved handle, and the ability to make plays away from the low block. She is no longer a back-to-the-basket kid, and she is becoming a really nice perimeter ‘4’ with power.
Adysson Kircher

Northeastern | 2026

, 2026, 5-5 PG, Northeastern H.S.
– Adysson came in and gave an immediate boost to the Lady Knights’ backcourt. She is a nice athlete with some length at her height, plus she can take on a number of roles. She can act as a shooter/scorer, she can handle and facilitate/create, plus she is a willing and capable defender. The biggest thing for her moving forward is to continue gaining strength and making her game more consistent.

– Aly is another member of a bright, young core for the Lady Pirates. She has tremendous length, speed, bounce, and the ability to make a lot of plays with her physical talent. Her skill continues to improve each time I see her, and as she makes her perimeter jumper more consistent, she will be a handful for opponents, especially playing alongside
