I’m going to give you some standouts from the Region 5 semifinals last night. The 2 games were a tight Dexter victory against Novi and a classic battle with Salem winning against Saline.
Morson is a big time basketball talent, there’s just no doubt about it. She’s athletic and has that shake that most high school players can’t stay in front of. I said yesterday that her mid range game was elite, and to pat myself on the back a bit, it was her mid range game last night that set the tone. Morson got better as the game went on and went into takeover mode late, leading her Salem team to a comeback win.
Perry has really impressed me all season long and last night was more of the same. Opponents really have to pick her up early, stop her momentum and keep her from getting downhill. She’s just too dangerous attacking the rim, as she can create for herself and her teammates. Perry is a leader that played effectively on and off the ball.
Stemmer was really good last night. She’s always drawn a lot of attention as a shooter with 3 point range and as a player with a very high basketball IQ. All that was true and evident last night, but it was her ball handling that grabbed my eye. I was impressed with how comfortable Stemmer was bringing the ball down the floor and initiating the offense.
Last night was a perfect example as to why you can expect to see Spence added to the prospect rankings at the next update. She can get in a rhythm with her jumper and she puts it up quickly, strongly and with confidence. Spence doesn’t need much space and showed the ability to shoot over top of smaller defenders.
Alyssa Gulleckson

Gulleckson is why I prefer to evaluate players without statistics from the game in hand. I have no idea what her stat line was, and I don’t need it. What I saw was an energy player that always seemed to be around the ball. Gulleckson made plays like scooping up lose balls and played bigger than her size. Every winning team needs a Gulleckson on their roster.
Kopacko played very well last night and she added a very important dimension to a vvery good team. Kopacko was willing to do the dirty work in the paint defensively and was very valuable with her strength and physicality. She played very well offensively, hitting some timely shots especially early and shooting at a very high percentage.
